Lost to a team who were there for the taking and a good team would have beaten them comfortably,  it's so galling that we have lost to a pretty awful team

Thought Saints over the two legs were good value for their money tbh. look to be hitting some form.

Our best player was Karius over both legs which says all you need to know, didn't deserve it ....

It's one positive we can take Karius looks much improved.

OK so we're going to win the double.

No doubt when we find form again you will actually be saying that.

Should have bought some pace in January.
      Haven't.
Paying the price this month with Mane gone.
      Simple as that unfortunately.

If we were relying on one player for width, then that is quite frankly not good enough.

I'd rather have seen Ojo play tonight - may have given us the much needed pace and penetration. Meanwhile, we need Can to F**k off and never come back, the money grabbing tosser.

Watch it.  This forum turns into North Korea when anyone calls Henderson out for the rubbish player he is.

Anyway, it's really not the end of the world, league cup has become a joke competition anyway.

Let's move on and focus on the league.

I mean, I try to be objective. I don't think he is a rubbish player. I do think he sometimes just disappears out of games, goes sitting between our CBs, and just gets the ball from one and passes it to the other one for the whole 90 minutes. This is pretty evident when teams sit deep and his unability to surge forward with the ball gets exposed.

I wanted Jürgen before we actually got him, but he's gone into  BR mode for some strange reason.   These players were beating teams at a canter a month ago, so whats happened. play to your teams abilities, and not as you think it should be played.
You need better players for that JK, if you think thats gonna happen.
5 really bad performances on the trot,  that is not a coincedence.
Please get it sorted, I've still got every confidence in you

      I really won't.

I thought top 4 and the league cup was about what we could achieve this season.

We've blown one and the other is looking  increasingly unluckily.

But that's what you get when you don't spend to strengthen the squad when the money is there.

What struck me most apart from our inability to carve out a decent chance, was that everytime their lads pinged 6 or 7 passes together in tight areas, they came out with the ball.  We seemed to lose it most times when we did it.  We're either misplacing the pass or being on the wrong foot receiving it.  I do think Wijnaldum would have been a better choice than Can, because he seems more confident and sharp in his passing game.

Whist I agree given our form since the new year. We had the chances tonight, couple of glorious ones but didn't take them. Earlier in the season we would have buried them chances easily. Should have had a penalty.

The joys of football; when you are in form everything goes for you but when you are having a rough patch, nothing seems to fall on the right side of luck. It will change though, part and parcel of the game.

To be honest, I was half expecting this form at the start of the season, not now.
To be fair and realistic King Kenny had both teams scored their great chances it would have been about 2-7 to Southampton

You always take defeat so well. I don't know how you do it. I'm f**king so angry and it's ruining my marriage

I'm internalising it.  Probably going to have a massive aneurysm in a few years.

Because you can't just change an entire squad over 1 summer. Re-building takes time. All well and good buying a load of new players but then you just find yourself like City for the majority of their time since being taken over.

Reasonable. I love Liverpool fc, I'm not gutted or lashing out. Southampton played some chess tonight. Imagine their fans bums clenching at every onslaught.
I never articulated that comment as I wanted because it'd take more words. Live match thread isn't the place.

That is true but the first leg was done and dusted, we had better chances than them tonight IMO and had the chance to take advantage of them only getting a 1-0 win in the 1st leg.

But yes you are right, it's easy to sit here and say because like you say, in the tie, both teams had their chances and no doubt they'd be thinking the same thing.

First leg, I had a one and a half hour dental appointment, first part of root canal. Saturday 21st, my birthday, get beat against Swansea. Today, 2nd one and a half hour dental appointment, in pain and we get dumped out of the EFL Cup. The pain of defeat is so much greater than the pain I'm in from the root canal. I can deaden the pain from dentistry, the pain of defeat is so so much harder to deal with!
