A bit of a fun topic to take the mind of things but one that might also highlight where our fans see the current team lacking.

Basically if you could go back in time and take 3 ex reds back to 2017 with you who would it be??? I suspect there will be a lot of similar picks and some players won't need explaining.

My 3...Ray Clemence. Don't need to explain that one..

Terry McDermott. A genius player. Smart and gifted on the ball. Great on set pieces and would add tonnes of goal's

Graeme Souness. Leader of leaders something our team seriously lacks. But on top of his leadership and toughness he was a proper player and like his old mate Terry mac he'd chip in with his share of goals

      So my team in a 3 4 1 2 would be

      .              Clem
      Gomez.    matip   lovern

      Lallana Terry mac souness Milner

      .              coutinho

      .        sturridge Firmino

Clemo, commanded his box, could come out and claim a ball,if a player was coming at him while he was coming for the ball it was knees up and the player never got near him or the ball.

Souey, could pick a player out anywhere on the pitch, could pass a ball, had a sweet right foot ,never once sh*t out of a tackle & had balls made out of titanium.

I'll go one better and do some that we'd get under FSG

      Doni

      Babbel
      Pellegrino
      Toure
      Aurelio

      Joe Cole
      Zenden
      Maxi Rodriguez

      Voronin
      Fowler (2nd spell)
      Jovanovic

All got something in common (I think)

Difficult choosing only three but I'd have:

      Reina
      Suarez
      Gerrard

Best goalkeeper, best forward and best midfielder of the last twenty years.

      So:

      Reina

      Clyne         Matip         Lovren         Milner

      Coutinho   Henderson   Lallana

      Firmino   Gerrard (c)   Suarez

More than any of them I think we miss Gerrard. Or more precisely, a player that can drag us kicking and screaming through a game when we're not playing well.

Grobbelaar - Could catch and dominate his area (after his early months with the 'clown' tag).  Mountains of character.

Hansen - simply the best CB we've ever had (IMHO) and my god do we need him now.

      Dalglish - Simply the best.

Running them close:  Gerrard (of course), Rush (how we need his goals) and Barnes (the absolute Balearics - could beat any defence and any defender).

I'm amazed how few have said Suarez so far. He is 100% made for this team and how we play and would easily be first on my list.

Next I'd have to get a keeper, I can't say Clem as I haven't seen enough of him and also Reina is of the modern era and is, for me, the best keeper I've ever seen with his feet and quick distribution.

Finally I think we'd all agree that we need a general in the centre of the park, someone who can change games, grip them by the throat and own them. As much as I thought of Digger to get Cou into the centre I think a 25/6 year old Gerrard would transform this side:

                        Reina
          Clyne Matip  Lovren Milner
                     Henderson
             Lallana          Gerrard
                      Coutinho
                  Suarez Firmino

      That front 5 is godlike.

But I think if we got other areas right then our front line could thrive. That's why Clem Terry mac and Souness got my call ahead of Luis Kenny rushie etc

Front 2 more like it. Gerrard and Suarez at their peak are Ballon D'or world class quality players, not even on form Coutinho comes close enough!

Yeah I totally see your angle mate, just from my perspective Suarez epitomises everything Jürgen would ever want in a player. On top of that he has the ability to be one of the very best (like you I think he is the best) in the world but it's as much about the hunger, desire, will to win and determination than just ability. He'd get so much more out of players such as Lallana and Coutinho, even the likes of Clyne and Milner would develop that level of fear of failure that doesn't exist with us right now. Too many accept that ohhh well it's just another hopeful ball into the box, back to running my socks off etc. Suarez would metaphorically and perhaps literally bite your ear off for the sh*te those two serve up and while some may not like that in the game I think it's exactly what they need from time to time.

That's why I've gone for Rush mate.  Sure Luis would do too but Rushy was the epitome of defend from the front, he'd have loved playing for Klopp.

Yeah that's fair enough Debs, the '86 cup final was my first vivid memory of a match that drew me to Liverpool and Rush was one of the few players that stood out as being completely ahead of his time to me even then. It's why I found it funny when people mocked Firmino's defensive stats when we've always appreciated the first line of defence at this club.

To me though Suarez just has that aura about him when even the impossible seems possible. I haven't witnessed that outside of Dalglish and Gerrard for us if I'm honest, Digger and Mcmanaman occasionally had hints of it but on such a consistent basis, where it almost became expected, nah Luis for me. That's what makes it fun and interesting though and a good thread to cheer ourselves up with.
