Klavan starts, Lovren on the bench.

Sanchez is on the bench for them too. Phew!

Considering Jürgen said Ragnar wasn't fit for the last match he hardly had a choice did he. Didn't stop many laying the boot in for that either though.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Milner, Wijnaldum, Can, Lallana, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino. Subs: Karius, Moreno, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Lucas, Origi, Woodburn.

Arsenal: Cech, Monreal, Koscielny, Mustafi, Bellerin; Coquelin, Xhaka, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Iwobi, Welbeck, Giroud. Subs: Ospina, Gibbs, Gabriel, Ramsey, Walcott, Alexis, Lucas.

That's an Arsenal side we can get at, even with same side as always.
Disappointed we haven't tried to change things up a bit,  but it's almost game time so put that to one side and let's show some spirit and get the 3 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh sorry. I must have missed that excuse.

One day we'll discover that Klopp playing Can was because he had no options too.

Oh sorry. I must have missed that excuse.

See this is the type of silly comment that really gets us nowhere, why is a player being injured an excuse rather than a reason. Sure he could have played Can at CB instead, that's a criticism that would be fair but labelling someone being injured as an excuse is frankly pathetic and the sooner you get out of such comments the sooner you'll actually be worth debating with rather than ignoring.

One day we'll discover that Klopp playing Can was because he had no options too.

The above applies to this also. Jürgen clearly has a lot of faith in Can, criticise away but at least serve up some alternative.

Ragnar Klavan returns as Liverpool make one change for this evening’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield.

The centre-back replaces Lucas Leiva in defence in the only alteration to the line-up deployed against Leicester City on Monday.

Dejan Lovren is back in the matchday squad after injury and is named on the substitutes’ bench.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Milner, Can, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Mane, Coutinho, Firmino.

Subs: Karius, Lovren, Moreno, Alexander-Arnold, Origi, Woodburn, Lucas.

If Lovren is fit to be on the bench he should have started.

I have offered alternatives many a time recently. I've been calling on Klopp to change.

As for Klavan being unwell... not convinced. He was on the bench, so how was he "unwell" to play? I find it hard to believe Klopp sometimes so sue me. ;)

      Just like a bus... :lmao:

I find it hard to believe Klopp sometimes so sue me.

Players can be fit enough to play a part but not a full 90 minutes, but your prerogative to think he was lying, I see no motivation to do so though there.

In any case on to the match.

I saw a stat today that both Milner and Clyne figure in the top 10 players in the entire league with number of touches. I wanted a change at either spot today because I think neither have been offering nearly enough for us recently. That change from my point of view would have been to flip Clyne onto the left hand side and bring TAA in.

As neither are dropping out I want to see much more from them today, Clyne must offer that outlet on the outside and for the love of god if you run out of an idea recycle the ball backwards, lumping it in to anywhere will just result in an easy counter for them and this is where we're being exposed so painfully this year.

Klavan or Lucas what a choice.

Think he has chosen right this time, must have been half fit because he was on the F***ing bench.

Suddenly my confidence has taken a knock in the knowledge Lovren isn't playing, who again must be fit if he's on the bench

Anyway F**k all that, I want to see us click going forward, been very little cohesion in our front line thia year, Spuds aside.

Expecting an exciting game and a fast start. Give us a reaction, Liverpool.

Arsenal fairly obviously going to play over the top of the press or try to anyway.

Arsenal line up looks like one that's come here to play a little differently to their usual flair types.

Could be more of a battle initially with the likes of Xhaka, Coquelin, Welbz and Giroud.

Looks like Wenger may change his philosophy for this one, and who can blame him?

OK this is getting bizarre now.

Jürgen clearly rates Lovren higher than Klavan, why wouldn't he start him if he was actually fit? Lovren is just returning from injury and clearly isn't fit enough to play the full 90 would be my guess but I'd be 100% confident he isn't actually fit enough to start and see only very silly reasons for questioning this.

Possibly Mick, Giroud starting does lean towards this but I think our biggest issues will come on the Klavan/Milner side. I think Arsenal are set up to expose us for pace on that side and neither Ragnar nor Milly possess it in spades.

Think we need a big game from both Can and Gini to cover in these areas, that's where I'll be focussing to begin with.

Interesting line up by Wenger with no Sanchez, Walcott or Ozil.

I wonder if he is thinking of bypassing the midfield and looking to press us high up the pitch with that hard working front 3.
Giroud must be in there to win the punts up the pitch and probably to expose our vulnerability to set pieces.
