When Gerrard used to be out everyone panicked. When Henderson is out nobody seems to be bothered, Lallana and Gini would be better anyway. If I was Klopp I would make Lallana captain.

Point taken, but is he better than Can, who will likely play in his position ?
      By a country mile I'd say !

Stop Silva and we would have stopped the City's attacking machinery. We need to dominate midfield and push them back.

Not sure about this anymore. Toure from deep is just as deadly as Silva , especially now that they have 3 pacey forwards.

It's gonna be a very difficult game.

We will win, it might be a tight game, but we will win. They will give us plenty of space to exploit but they will probably score a few themselves. Here's hoping that Couts turns up for this game.

I am going to be greedy and say we will win. I hope City go through in the CL tonight as that will give them something other to think about.
we are still on the outside of the top 4 if everyone wins their games, the minimum we need is a point.

We need this so much for our quest for Champions league, at least a draw but a win will do wonders and we have what it takes.

      Come on Reds.

Just what I was thinking, we get an early goal and they will feel like they running through treacle.
My only doubt is Can in cm instead of the industrious Hendo.

Or they will step it up vs us like how we did vs Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs after our embarrassing losses vs Leciester, Hull and Wolves. I actually think the loss will spur them on.

      Agreed.

The pessimist in me tells me that this years 'comfort blank' of our record vs top sides cannot last forever either.

Think we'll lose this to be honest.

One thing about Firmino and our other strikers that I think often goes overlooked is the difference he makes in winning the ball in the air. I've had this impression for quite a while that although not our tallest striker, he's definitely the one who makes it harder for defenders when the ball comes in the air, which is quite often, especially as Mignolet can be so slow in re-starting play and is frequently left with no option other than kicking it long.

I've just looked on Squawka and the stats seem to back this up: Firmino wins 31.37% of aerial duels, compared to 22.70% from Origi and 20.00% from Sturridge.

I felt against Burnley that Firmino would have made a big difference on that (winning the long balls) alone, as I was rather unimpressed with Origi's work in that respect. Last time I saw Sturridge play live I was even less impressed, as he didn't even bother jumping most of the time.

You mean you were *alive* when Surridge last played?  :f_doh:  :o

A win will suffice and it won't matter how we get it,just bring the 3 points home.

Being top of the top six mini league is not worth a damn if you can't beat the rest of the league. There's far too much obsession over the top six with the media, Sky in particular. Win all those matches and you get 30 points. Win every game against every other team in the league and you get 84 points. Which 'mini-league' is more likely to result in the title?

City demonstrated last night that they have a crap defence and if they play their usual open expansive football then we can beat them I think,  a lot hinges on who gets the first goal.

City are under pressure the team and the manager.  They appointed the best manager in the world in their and the media's eye.  We need to start off well and get the first goal and the pressure will mount.  We don't want to get on the end of a back lash.  First goal will put us in a strong position.  We have done brilliantly against the top sides but this run will come to an end, hopefully not Sunday.
