      Souness/McMahon. 😳😳😳😳😳

Those two shouldn't be mentioned in the same book, let alone the same sentence.
McMahon was comparatively crap. Wasn't very good compared to anyone if that era. Piss poor if you ask me, and the standard of player that became synonymous with our demise !
McMahon was piss poor ? He was f***in fantastic for us . Dirty , great eye for goal , great runs from midfield , excellent passer of the ball and driving force in midfield. He walked straight into the side effortlessly .

He was the steel to go with the gold of Barnes , Beardsley , Aldridge and Houghton.  The game against Arsenal were he stopped the ball on the line before running back , doing a left , right shuffle and then putting a reverse left foot pass to Beardsley who then squares it to Aldo at the far post actually made me bite my lip so hard , my chin was covered in blood.

Can't agree with that. Macca was the bite in midfield that we haven't had for a long time. Could ping a decent long ball and had a ferocious shot too (usually on target), scoring regularly (29 over 6 years, I believe).  Biggest criticism is that he is a bluenose, if I remember correctly.

Souness the manager is widely credited with dragging us down (he flogged Beardo, Houghton, Staunton and Macca and ruined a strong and successful team), but as a player, phenomenal.

      Just my opinion.

Being a Bluenose in them days wasn't a sin
Me & my mates were a gang of 9 in the 80's and 3 of them were Blue. But come saturday we all went whatever team was at home that saturday.
I genuinely enjoyed watching that Everton team of the mid - 80's and my mates loved watching us. Hey , different times.

I actually really like the Ox, he's pacy, he's direct, if we played him as a left winger, not sure if he has a left foot mind you, I think it would address a massive gap for us. Mane is really the only speed monster we have, having two in the team would be pretty good.

But not as a CM, he won't start ahead of Couts, Mane or Lallana in that position. 35 mil for a bench player is a lot to waste.15-20 mil maybe.

I am still holding hope that one of, Kent, Wilson or Ojo will come good in pre season and we wouldnt need to buy a back up in Ox. Salah and Mane as our main wide players with Coutinho or Lallana filling in occasionally if needed, perhaps Origi, Firmino or Ings too. Diamond formation as well if needs be for 2 strikers.

We need 2-3 starting caliber starting wide players with speed IMO...going in with just Salah and trusting the kids is way too much a chance to take.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is to tell Arsenal he wants to leave this summer. He remains a key target for Liverpool. (Jonathan Northcroft)

Arsenal are set to demand more than £25m for Oxlade-Chamberlain, the player wants a new club before pre-season starts. (Jonathan Northcroft)

£25 million for him is much more reasonable given his injury record. I'd definately take him at that price. I still want to see a big statement signing this Summer though, not lurch from Van Dyke to some Championship player.

Still pretty pricey for a player with a year left on his contract.

Still think his agent is using us to force Arsenal to the table.

Don't think we will sign him. Would imagine he eventually renews his deal.

      I'd have no problem signing him it was under following conditions;

      1. He isn't our main CM summer signing
      2. He isn't out main wide forward signing
      3. He isn't our main full back signing

Don't think you have to worry too much about him being our main FB signing, I reckon it will be an 18-20 year old understudy with Milner being the starter....that is one position RB/LB that I really have no doubts in whats going to happen.

Probably, I actually think he'd make a boss full back. I'd just prefer if we signed him it's for someone who is either specialist or a real prospect but still a specialist fullback.

I like Chamberlain, he's decent at lots. Just not an obvious improvement at fulback, midfielder or winger.

As a squad lad for sure.

Even if it was him over a FB I'd okay, if it was Salah, Van Dijk, Keita and then Chamberlain I would be happy.

Only worry is that Klopp said a few months ago (in a press conference I believe) he was not interested in Chamberlain and these rumours are still not going away.

Hes just injured too often, what use would he be?

The Ox wants out of Arsenal to play regularly in CM.

He won't get that oppertunity here so it's not going to happen.

At least I hope not unless he's the budget alternative to Keite.

Ain't gonna happen for me money wise. One year left on his contract means we can get him for free next year. Why pay £35m now.

Which is a better moneyball option?
      1) pay £35m and flip him for >£35m in a few years or
      2) pay nothing next year and sell him for >£16m over the same period

Seems a very decent blokes but he's like the quicker, shi**er version of Lallana.

As a squad player I think he could fit in but I'm more a fan of turning our current first team players in to squad players. At least that way we know we're improving and upgrading on the quality we already have.

That's exactly the route we should be taking, and it seemed to be inferred by Klopp, that that's the way he wanted to handle transfers so for that reason alone, I'd guess this one is just journos taking the piss.
