are we going to bid for him or what?

Why would we bid on him when we made a public apology saying we've ended our interest in the player?

Except there's absolutely no indication that we are still interested in him. Even the reliable journos are not reporting that we have any interest in him. I'd love to believe we are going to somehow buy him but that apology came much too quickly and was much too strongly worded. Don't see FSG comfortable paying that much for a defender.

I don't know how to call this one.
Are Southampton leaving it to the last minute just to piss us off? Will their new owners want to sell a star player as one of their first actions at the club? Who knows, time will soon tell

Interesting isn't it, especially as they've been told to sell before you buy. Not getting my hopes up again on this one but haven't given up completely either.

I don't know much about this lad but IF he is a half decent CB then there's hope that this VVD deal has been waiting on them getting somebody in to replace him first.

Tare told Italian broadcaster Premium Sport: "He requested to be transferred. He wants to be a starter in England and will be transferred to Southampton in the near future.

"He has had a positive experience here in Rome. I wish him all the best."

Sky Sports News understands former AZ Alkmaar man Hoedt's arrival would not have implications on the future of want-away centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Forget how good he is with ball at feet etc I'd just love to see us sign someone tall. I don't know if the numbers back this up but I feel we are a small team, and that's without Lallana and Coutinho (Naby Keita is a midget as well)

I believe it when they say he isn't a replacement for VVD.

They started Yoshida and Stephens in central defence the past two games.

Will be madness to go into the season with the current options at CB.

It's really easy for them to say they won't sell if there are no offers on the table.

I believe, no matter what was said before, that they should be tested with an offer just to see how they react. Something north of £50 should be a pretty decent starting offer. I think we're waiting for Chelsea to do the first move which is not the right thing IMO, we should make the first move.

VVD training with the U23's. Make of it what you will.

Well all that means is that he's still frozen out of first XI either by his choice or the manager. It also means that he is fit and healthy :-)

Or it means he's conceded he's going nowhere and he has to work himself back into good graces by starting with the U23's.

Or it means Southampton have privately agreed to sell him, with Van Dijk himself, and offered him a route to fitness. We could infer many things on this news, think it's probably best to think it changes nothing until we know otherwise. Too many false dawns in this window to cling onto another.

My guess is we'll find out on August 31st, not before and I'll be honest in admitting I think there's still a better than 50/50 chance that we get him, but again that could be more down to hope than expectation.

I reckon we should say f**k it, let's just put a bid in and see the reaction, they (Saint's) are either going to say f**k off or they might just want do a deal to get him off the staff,

I'd start with a £55m bid and test their resolve....if their adamant they won't deal with LFC then we will know for sure won't we and we can move on, I honestly can't see anyone else interested so us bidding might just be the straw on that camels back, no offence Rio.
