I reckon we could have made Baresi look like a bad defender if he was playing in our side so you could be right. 
Joke or not, you're spot on Si: it would be nice to add some backbone but it will take one hell of a player to change the way we defend. 😞
That's why I haven't been overly phased (one way or the other) by this whole will he, won't he, pish. 😁
Lot of truth in that boys but as I see it I think his defensive qualities are a bonus rather than the reason Jürgen wants him.
Like Hummels at Dortmund (but much, much quicker) his ability on the ball will let us move further up the park and press higher - no need for Hendo / Can to get the ball in the D on the penalty area. Midfield moves up and press is even more claustrophobic for opponents.
We might be more exposed to the ball over the top now and again but with Virgil / Matip / Clyne / Trent / Robbo / Bertie we've got some wheels back there.
Honestly - for me this is as much about the press and possession control as defending.
