It is what it says on the tin...

So... who do you trust to be honest, solid and/or reliable, when it come to transfers, and why?

Or do you trust none of them? 😉

Generally ones that have worked at the echo covering Liverpool or worked on the Kop Magazine, also produced by the Echo, they usually get a bit more insight into what goes on in the club, say than the southern based tabloid journos.

James Lawton and Martin Samuel are probably two of the finest journalists out there ( IMO )
Both are extremely insightful and always do their homework. Their columns are always fantastic reads.

I'm assuming the question is specifically regarding player transfer rumors.  In that sense, the word "trust" may not be the right descriptive.  Rather, I'd suggest that some journos are more reliable than others.  As mentioned above, the likes of Pearce, Reddy, Barrett, and Smith would probably fall into this category.  However, none of them get everything right (not even the reliable ones) so it's best to take all transfer rumors with a pinch of salt....

Tend to gauge it by the publication/frequency of link/general plausibility test as I do not normally recall the names of all the journos.

For example, according to my bullshit detector, if it's rumour that's appeared in the Metro, The Daily Star or Football Rumours, and has not been picked up by BBC or one of the major news publications in a standard article (rumour sections alone don't count as they always contain complete bollocks) then it is almost certainly completely invented dog sh*t and I give it the swerve. In fact I refuse to read such publications as they are so unreliable.

Generally you get a sense if a rumour has or could have legs...and that's when I take an interest. I also always check the publication source before I decide whether it's worth reading.

I do exactly the same in fact as when I see something posted by a certain forum member in the Current Affairs section of the forum. Often (I.e. 99% of the time) the mere fact that he has posted something gives off enough of a whiff that I know it isn't worth the time of day.

'Journo's' and 'trust' should never be mentioned in the same paragraph, never mind sentence 😳

      Journos work off info that is either;

      A) Fiction for clickbait, or

      B) Tidbits from the club to keep them onside and feel as though they're given inside info.

You can't trust a journo. You can have a preference for some depending on writing style etc. but to trust them? As if any club would feed sensitive info to a journo.

So you don't read what he writes but think he's a shithouse ? Yeh i see your logic.
Do you also not read books and tell people they're sh*te?
Or don't watch films and tell people they're sh*te ?

So you don't remember his pieces slagging off Rafa in the NOTW? Hence Rafa's there's two newspapers we don't read quote about the s*n & the news of the world. Samuels worked on the news of the world - hence why I think he's a shithouse.

But you crack on loving another c**t who takes the murdoch shilling and has previous for slagging our club off.

      You 'assume' right Harry "...

who do you trust to be honest, solid and/or reliable, when it come to transfers...

I asked because there seems to be no rhyme or reason [consistency if you prefer] to how we view stories linking us to players.

Me? I've noticed, more so this past few windows, that the company tend to leak info first to a select few... Pearce, Reddy and Joyce for example. They tend to be closest to the club. However I believe they are also used to test the water in return for the odd scoop.

Who do I "trust"? Hmm... well I work on the notion that those three are closest to the club but more importantly, (for me anyhow), having decided that this is the case, I no longer cherry pick what I choose to believe.

For example - one, two or all three of them say we are after player X: I will accept that. We then fail to sign that player: I will accept we missed out.

So, in the absence of a definitive list of who we can "trust" - I thought it may be interesting to see who individuals see as being solid sources.

None of the f*ckers to be brutal...

Handy that but noted Al. 😉

so it's best to take all transfer rumors with a pinch of salt....

Meaning, of course, that you never need to be consistent and can dismiss or accept what ever story fits your narrative. Again handy that. 😄

Teasing aside Harry - "all rumours..." it is. 😉

Slagging Rafa off ? Really ? You never get tired of over reacting do you ? Not being able to be objective is not a virtue y'know.

I remember a site that used to track transfer rumours across the media, not sure it still exists, can't remember the name. What I do remember is that even the best were getting barely above 20% of transfer stories right with the red tops getting single figures or barely in the tens of percent.

Mind you, those kind of percentages put their 'real news' coverage to shame
