Not being funny, but a fans site is not a source, it's a theory.

Not saying it won't happen, but blogs aren't reputable.

Thisisanfield site is quite trustworthy mate. They don't post news in a hurry. Also, if you read the article on the site, you would find that they have quoted Northern echo.

      Fair play,

But really the opening post should not just have a comment & link, the post should include the article in text/news format.
Agree that is a pain, but there you go. Example can be seen here. https://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php/topic,49603.0.html

Would be gutted to see him go, he has been a fantastic servant to the club. I think he could still play a role and his experience could be useful in certain games this season.

It would be a great signing for Newcastle and Rafa though and I only wish him well if he chooses to go.

When are we going to give this bloke a testimonial? Excuse me if we have already.

He wouldn't go to another another English, will be Italy or back to Brazil if he leaves. Like to see him stay personally, can always rely on him.

That example shows incoming transfer, I would have thought that outgoing has another format so I looked at the Alberto Moreno thread as a guide. May I suggest if there is really brackets for all you could have for incoming: player<<(team) and for outgoing: player>>(team) for a format if that really is an important thing.

I'd keep him because the squad is so thin, he 'can do a job', and his experience.

If we had more solidly performing able bodies, would not be a problem. BUT we just about squeaked 4th, with NO other competitive distraction, nada.  Even WITHOUT shipping out players, we need to sign more guys for depth.

Though his pace is gone, and he consistently gives away set pieces in dangerous places, the lack of talent etc in the existing squad means for me he should stay for another season.

Outstanding servant as he has been Lucas would have been shipped last season or even earlier in the days of a successful LFC.
The driving force behind him being kept on is as you describe a lack of quality, a lack of quality in depth; that lack of quality in depth means we are forced to depend on players past their better days and the horrible truth is we cannot afford to let Lucas Leiva go because the team still lacks quality in depth.

Which manager are we to blame?

Could be on his way to Italy for £5m

I'd prefer to sell Stewart than this lad but I think the driving force behind it is actually going in search of first team minutes rather than us looking to offload. Can totally understand that, would really like to see him come back in some capacity in the future though if this is the case, top bloke and top player.

I won't begrudge him wanting to move but I would perfer him to see out his career with us. Not just for sentimental reasons either, he's a handy player to have around the squad. If they've any sense they'd be offering him a route into coaching, part of a new generation boot room.

10 years service is amazing. Well done to him, Ife he gets a move to Lazio, superb, good luck to him. If he stays he will give us the 110% he has always given when called upon.

I suspect Klopp would have gone to Lucas and said: Here's how much(little) I expect you will play this season. Lazio are in for you. If you want it, we'll accept, if you want to stay, you can stay.

Would like to see him stay but wish him all the best, fantastic player for the club, not one of the greatest players ability wise by any means but what he done, he done well, was reliable and it's a shame there haven't been a lot more players over the last 10years to have had his attitude. Never let the criticism get to him, always worked hard to improve and survived Woy and BR both trying to bin him off.

But as Luke says, would much rather see Stewart go instead.

I read that Lucas asked for a transfer last season, but after the injury to Gomez and issues with Sakho, Klopp asked him to stay.  He didn't mope or complain -- he went about his business and conducted himself with class at all times.

I'm sure Lucas would have expected to collect more than one League Cup after a decades service at Liverpool but he did a good job overall for us and did have a golden spell.

Contracts up next year, he's going to have to move somewhere else anyway in the next 12 months so if he can get a move and something a bit more secure then good luck to him.

I like Lucas as a person, he was loyal and good to us. I am grateful of his excellent attitude, but I never once believed in those 10 years he was good enough for us. I always said he would do better in Italy because it suits his midfield style much better. I believe this is mutually beneficial for both clubs and Lucas himself. I would be very happy if he returned to us some day in a coaching role. Perhaps once Gerrard becomes Klopps assistant he would be perfect to be the u21 coach.

I thought he had an excellent start when he came on as sub against Everton at Goodison in his first match for us.I seem to recall a penalty.

Yeah wasn't it Gerrard he came on for? I seem to recall thinking 'wtf - taking Gerrard off?' for one of those matches. And then he had a pop at goal and Gormless Twin Neville (I think) who handled on the line  and got a straight red (defuckinglightful).

10 years at the club is excellent service. He played with great players, he played with sh*te players - and he particularly dragged some of the worst teams we've ever had at Liverpool almost by himself at times. In fact, he was arguably our most important player in picking up the debris from Roy Hodgson's short but immensely destructive tenure.

You have to be a player of sound mentality to do that, and he has been undoubtedly one of our most professional players, made no more starker than the sheer unprofessionalism of many of his peers (and certain shitty ex-Halmstad manager).

Meh don't want to be harsh but his leaving will make absolutely no difference to our season or how we move forward.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that those ACL injuries robbed us of a player who would have been rated like Makelele as the ultimate DM.

He deserves to play full time, unfortunately the EPL is pretty unforgiving and the Italian league is as slow paced as you will get.

      All the best Leiva YNWA.

I think this is the problem with the 'do not say a bad word about Lucas' mob. You can in their eyes call him decent and nothing more but you must have to attribute the loyalty and professionalism tag to the end of that acknowledgement if you want to escape the diatribe that will undoubtedly follow.

I get that people have a soft spot for Lucas 'the man' and do not for one minute begrudge him or them of acknowledging his admirable qualities, which in fairness don't seem to be in abundance throughout the world of football anymore.

Yet, instead of these qualities being juxtaposed with Lucas 'the player' they're all rolled into one and calling Lucas an average player who was capable of the odd stonker just isn't enough for such folk, it's hearsay.

I'll admit I was one of the figurative "boo boys" when Lucas first came here from Gremio - I'm not going to lie. I thought he was f**king hopeless. And to be fair, he wasn't far off that when he first joined when he was touted as a box-to-box midfielder - which he never became under Rafa. To give him his dues he stuck to it, in the face of those who DID actually boo him match day (which is shockingly wrong), but he was like another Firmino IMHO, a player with no real position. He took a while to find himself IMO. He was learning the DM role under Rafa IIRC - and he didn't measure up to his predecessor Hamman. The reckless fouls especially have stuck with him throughout his career like a signature, and he's put the team in so many precarious positions down the years that he just irritated me.

However, he slightly warmed on me in his later (more recent) years, and he definitely matured with experience like a good bottle of red. He learned to read the game really well, ala Alonso. What he lacked in speed was made up by his footballing brain - all brought about through his experience. Those clumsy signature fouls weren't just clumsy anyone, there was a spattering of cynicism to them now, and he'd happily take one for the team. He was a good team player who learnt to specialise a role, but was limited as his apparent box-to-box-ness had all but disappeared - and his creativity to move the ball forward had evaporated if ever it was there in the first place.

When I think of DM's, I think of Hamman, Alonso, and Mashcerano the destroyer, Lucas for me isn't/wasn't on their level by any stretch but he'd come along way from the hopeless days of his beginning. Still, a decent/good player but then Jürgen tried him at CB, and while I criticised Lucas for his performances there it was on the manager who would toy with this experiment because he left himself with no other options. Lucas tried to do the job the manager asked him, some days he'd do it okay, others it would be pretty much a nightmare - and poor Lucas was the cat that would often get kicked for it.

He turned out to be decent/useful player. But the superlatives have often been exaggerated and I can't help but feel Lucas the player epitomised where we have found ourselves as a club over the last decade. I wish him all the best, and obviously would never begrudge him a testimonial or a return to the club in some shape or form in the future.

So when you bid farewell to someone do you talk about the things that he was not so good at and could have improved? Can't you appreciate the good qualities he brought to us and wish him well.

Top Top Lad - and a great player was Lucas!

He got pelters for almost a decade from some of our shithouse fans - and indeed our best fans but never once did he make an issue of it - never once did he not put in a shift.

Yeah, he wasent a 15 goal a season midfielder that we wanted when we heard he was from Brazil - but still did a f**king great job. Will be missed...

i am grateful his attitude and commitment. I just never rated him. Half the forum flip flopped their opinion because he is leaving. I would go through the player thread and quote peoples change in attitude from just two months ago but lazy. I wish him well though.

Gutted to see him go. He got off to a tough start here but eventually proved most of his doubters wrong and became a real fan favourite.

Even now some fans don't appreciate him and realise how good he is. Lost his legs a little bit but his experience could have been crucial going into a champions league season.

I will be sad to see him go. Always gave 100%. Despite not having the legs after injury he had a good football brain to be in the right place most of the time. Pity some of our other midfielders didn't pick up the skill to receive a ball, draw in an opposition player then play an offensive pass from him. Think he'll be missed behind the scenes also. It used to be Lucas that would ring up the young kids to gee them up when they were in with a shout of first team action. Did a captain's job without the armband.

Nailed it FMS, absolutely spot on, i can't remember Rib ever being complimentary to anyone who adorned the Liverpool Red, i also can't be arsed going thru previous posts but i really don't have to, because posts from the likes of him kind of get stuck in the memory banks, not because they are worth remembering but because you think to yourself, why the f**k should someone say that, obviously i cannot be particularly specific but the general consensus is his posts are like you said, a 'shitstream of sub standard bullshit', a very precise description of which i totally agree.

I still think his performance in the League Cup Final last year against a very good Man City was a masterclass in defending that really put to shame our 'full time' central defenders, particularly Skrtel. One of the most honest, smart and dedicated players to have ever played for us and it's a real real shame that the prime of his career was ruined by injury and a club that was in dire straits thanks to the mess of Hicks, Gillett and Hodgson etc.

I can't say for the whole match because I honestly don't remember, but I remember he pretty much stood in front of Aguero for a few 3 seconds and didn't challenge for the ball which led to City scoring the opening goal. Moreno was in that calamity too, but honestly Lucas and Moreno both were terrible in that goal we conceded. That was a cup final game and got caught ball watching.

It is not disrespectful to not rate a guy just because he was a nice guy and is leaving. It is called being honest. I don't care if I am hated on here for it, I won't change my mind and start rating Lucas now just to suit you guys. Like I already said, I wish him well and he is a great guy... but LFC quality? I think I remember now, he was very good in that game. I do still think he could have gone in and challenged for that though. There is a difference between rating and respecting a player, the two aren't the same. I honestly respect him but to say he didn't deserve fan criticism is barmy. Politically correct barmy brigade again. I respect Lucas more than Suarez, it has nothing to do with respect, purely football ability.

Since 2009 this season is the second time we qualified  for CL. In the first season we missed CL league football Lucas bagged 50 apps. Not blaming lucas since he shouldn't have been put in a position to replace Alonso at that stage in his career. He took a while to get better but I never felt he was good enough for the top level, but loyal and a nice guy he was.
