pointless thread this, when none of yous have a clue what's going on behind closed doors, has he asked for 400 grand a week on a three year deal, if so it's bye bye at his age, go play in Saudi league pal

Well we know neither Virg nor Mo have been spoken to as of yesterday about a new deal (probably safe to say neither has Trent) and the facts remain we've let 8-9 players leave for nothing during Klopp's era soooo......

We also know not much went on "behind closed doors" during the summer to get our main transfers in otherwise we would've been at least half busy, so I'm kinda thinking not much at all goes on "behind closed doors"....certainly not in the last 6 months anyhow.

The way I see it is he's still our best attacker, has hinted he'd like to stay, and we'd therefore be nuts to let him go on a free. If anything, the fact the Saudi's are around is the ultimate get out clause, which completely nullifies any risk of us ending up with a highly paid player who is on the wane. Unless he suddenly needs a walking stick he's going to be in demand. Bearing in mind he is chiseled as f*ck, has a hypobaric chamber at home and is happy/confident and performing well, I don't see any grounds for hesitation on our (FSG's) part.

He wont be going to the saudi league. If Liverpool are stupid enough to let one of the world's best players leave for free then the big clubs in europe and dare i say some in this country will be all over him.

Salah isnt motivated by money. He wants to play at the top.

Because like he told the media, he hasn't been offered a contract.

To which the follow up question to that would be….why haven’t we?, moreover….are we looking to? This surely has to be seen as priority in the next month or 2….if we’re revising this subject come Christmas, there’s going to be a lot of nervous fans.

Haven’t noticed you around here recently so  xxxxx:action-smiley-065:

It's obvious he's more than open to staying.
He seems like the type of player thats interested in breaking records and having a legacy.
He deserves 10 years (at least) at Liverpool, he should 100% get a 2 year contract. I'd be disappointed if e doesn't.

A 2yr contract is sensible for sure, just wonder what his agent is looking for.

I mean what is the alternative to not signing him up to a £36.4m - 2 year renewal?

Chiesa to start as our RW while we sign someone like Bakayoko as understudy? Even an understudy would cost 40m and 100k a week in wages or so. If we're keeping Chiesa as a squad option, then you're looking at double the fee/wages.

Do people reckon we have some sort of private deal in place to land Gordon on a cut price deal next summer?

I'd guess Mo Salah is aiming to play competitive football into his late 30's. Where he plays that football will depend on a whole raft of factors. Liverpool will offer him a contract, and that contract will have to be at least 2 years, and it will have to have a pay increase, for him to accept it.
Alternatively (unlikely in my opinion) they would offer him 3 years at broadly the same money. Any offer lower (in either time or money) and I think he would walk. He will have calculated that a top Saudi side (Is there such a thing?) will offer him a 5/6 year deal worth multiples of the wage we can give him...this is his safety net. This guarantees him playing into his late 30's.
Another important factor is personal legacy....Does he stay here and break all club records?....does he win the Champions league?...These are all unknowable...whereas going to Saudi, where he would be idolised and rewarded with wealth beyond his wildest dreams...is knowable.
      Time will tell.

      Worth every penny.

They ain't spending it on anything else!

He will still be knocking them in and creating chance after chance in 3 years time. He's too good!

For me I don't think we would be worried about spending money and wages on a much younger player.

The sticking point will always be weighing up offering Mo and Virgil new deals, likely in bigger salaries for players who will be mid 30's by the time those contracts are up.

People keep saying Saudi this Saudi that. They've pretty much stopped spending money over there... especially compared to last summer.

Salah isnt interested in Saudi. Even if he is not here next season he will be at a top club here or in europe.

Well .... maybe it would be an idea for the people in charge to pull their finger out and actually speak to him ... and his agent.

Im sure he wants to stay. Instigate talks and see what he is looking for and go from there. As it is im sure his agents phone is ringing night and day with serious interest.

While I agree with your reasons as to why FSG would be hesitant in giving them new deals due to their age, they’re both still world class players and probably will be in a few years time so it’s worth the risk in my eyes.

Salah, regardless of his age, could be the difference between us getting a league title in the next couple of years or not. I would keep him till he didn't want to be here.

He may not score as many as he used to, but you can bet your life his goal involvements will not drop, he is a true professional and I think it's clear to see that if he were to have a decline in speed, his able to adapt his game to make definitive passes to get key assists.

      Keep him, please.

FSG’s financial priorities come into focus yet again and spotlight the ever widening chasm in their sense of benefits or not to LFC!

Salah’s contract issues should have been well sorted but business matters are more important to our market playing owners.
