      Ha ha.  A change is as good as a rest.

      In defence of the majority of the forum though I do think most of us now realise that pre-season games (especially against Conference sides) have little impact on the season either way.  If whatever team we put out got hammered 5-0 tonight I promise I won't moan!

      True.

      We'll have a load of changes throughout the game as well.

      Its a glorified training session.

      Absolutely right, although I got a decent touch with us stuffing Barca 4-0 last pre-season, not sure you'll get decent odds for us to turn over Tranmere to that tune.

      (10s best price)

      Actually think 2-2 at 90/1 is amazing odds, can't see anywhere offering over 40s.

      My guess at tonight's team.

      1st Half
      GK: Karius
      D: Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner
      M: Henderson, Gini, Marko
      F: Bobby, Woodburn, Ojo

      2nd Half
      GK: Karius
      D: TAA, Gomez, Klavan, Moreno
      M: Lucas, Chirivella, Ejaria
      F: Solanke, Origi, Sturridge

      This is the least-researched guess ever. I'm not even sure if Origi is there yet. Markovic, Wilson, Flanagan, Randall are among those who might be included. We seem to be short of center backs at the moment.
      edit: didn't realize Lovren was back.

      For the first half, Klopp has named a strong starting lineup, including the fit-again Henderson.

      Loris Karius begins the game in goal, behind a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva and James Milner.

      In midfield, Henderson is joined by Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum, supporting a forward line of Sheyi Ojo, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.

      Nathaniel Clyne, Lazar Markovic and new signing Dominic Solanke are among those set to come on for the second half, as Klopp shuffles his pack against Micky Mellon’s Tranmere.

      Mohamed Salah is unavailable however, while he finalises his work permit, along with Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane.

      First-Half XI:
      Karius;
      Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lucas, Milner;
      Henderson, Grujic, Wijnaldum; Ojo, Firmino, Sturridge

      Second-Half XI:
      Karius;
      Clyne, Gomez, Klavan, Flanagan;
      Stewart, Chirivella, Woodburn; Markovic, Kent,
      Solanke

      arghh - i was closer before my edit as Lovren is unavailable after all. Says he, Divock and Alby all have "minor muscle strains."

      12 months in exile for Sakho. His keester may be stuck to the seat of that stationary bike in the training room by now.

      Glorified training I know, but most interested to see Grujic and Ojo in the 1st half, then Gomez in the 2nd half plus what I guess will be a front 3 of Kent, Solanke and Woodburn, with Markovic at the tip of the diamond the way Phil will be deployed this year. I guess Woodburn and Lazar could be switched.

      Agreed, really want Grujic to have a proper run at it this season, liked what I saw last pre-season and just about every time he got a chance.

      Echo mentioning TAA getting the nod over Clyne at right back with what seems to be the "first-choice" group (minus about 8 absentees). I wouldn't read too much into it.

      Don't get my hopes up, TAA, Karius in the starting line-up for the first team, how it should be!

      Guessing it really just boils down to fitness, but why let that get in the way of a bit of banter! :D

      I'd be happy if Karius started the season in goal. He made one costly error against Bournemouth last season (and a debatable one against Payet free kick at Anfield) which was blown up by rat boy (and his gormless brother on BBC) on Sky and that was that for him. Mignolet, how many did he make? A few including a dropped bollock which let Hull in against us. Then there was that one where he was walking into Liverpool city centre when David Luiz took a free kick back in January. And that's not mentioning his f**king awful shot to goal ratio stats.

      Palace will cave in eventually, they can't afford not to sign him.

      They're about to pay 8m for Riedewald. They may have him for centre back.
