More to the point...Milner is 6.5 as a defender, how?! Prices this year are daft.

Prices are indeed daft this year. I'm really struggling to get together a team that I'm 'okay' with at the moment. It's like the players are either ridiculously expensive at 10.0+ or they're mediocre but still in the 7.0 to 8.5 price range. Where are the 'decent players' in the 5.0 - 6.5 bracket? It all looks a bit unbalanced to me this year.  I'll have to look into it a bit more later.

Got to have Kane and Sanchez in there, along with Coutinho and City and Chelsea coverage somewhere.
Kane should be 12, Sanchez 11.5, Jesus 9.5 and would have been fine. KDB probably under priced. Stones has somehow gone from ending last season at around 4.5 to starting this at 5.5! How do they work these prices out?!

Austin and Jay Rodriguez could be good bargains if they deliver, they have very good fixtures.

Think I'm going to pass on Sanchez. With Lacazette coming in as the main striker, Sanchez will be starting on the left again and his stats aren't as good compared to when he plays in a central position. He had a considerable drop in form when he was moved out wide again last season. De Bruyne looks like a bargain for me at 10.0. I also like Defoe. Bournemouth play some decent football, he should easily score 15-20 again. If he was able to do that for a sh*t Sunderland team, he's going to enjoy himself at Bournemouth.

I've been looking at Austin and Rodriguez. With the new Southampton coach, I'm not sure how they are going to line up this season. I'm sure he's going to bring in a few players of his own and one of them will probably be a striker. I like Rodriguez, but will he get in the team ahead of Rondon? Or will he play as a second striker around him? He might take Chadli's spot in the team, apparently he has had some arguments with Pulis. Going to have to watch quite a few preseason games!

I will not invest in defense this year.

I think it's a mistake to not invest in defense to be honest. Everyone will have the likes of Kane, Sanchez, Alli, Coutinho, Jesus, ... in their team. The difference in points in the long term is made in defence for me. They also get rotated a lot less and with all the top teams playing in the CL, the attacking players will probably be rested more often in the league. If you look at the points / million (costprice) they're good options to have. I invested heavily in defence last season and it really paid off.

Fair shout on Sanchez. But, even despite that dip last season, it was still his best season yet and was the highest scorer on the game. He's on set pieces.

But if you "invest" in defence then surely you can't afford "the likes of Kane, Sanchez, Alli, Coutinho, Jesus [the big points scorers]" in your team and you'll fall way behind anyhow?

Joking aside: work away Dan - I'll be watching with interest.  8)

      I should've made myself more clear  ;D!

You don't fall way behind if you invest the difference in money wisely (which is of course more easily said than done). Kane and Sanchez together cost 24.5m and had 488 points together last season (that's absolutely massive of course). Coutinho, Sigurdsson and Zaha all together cost 24.5m million too, but had a collective 501 points. So I would have none of the highest points scorers from last season in my team, but I'd still have more points and more importantly, more options to pick from depending on the gameweeks and the fixtures.

Same goes for defence, you can have Kane (224) and Francis (89) for 17m or you can have Hazard (224) and Walker (142). People are blinded by some of the big point hauls the big hitters get on some gameweeks. Top defenders in attacking sides with a solid defence get a very steady amount of points, it looks a lot less spectacular, but worth it long term in my opinion. It does give you a lot more options too to change formations. If you're constantly stuck with a 3 man defence of budget defenders, there's not much you can do. Of course you need a big hitter to captain, but you can only captain one every gameweek anyway.

You probably already knew exactly what I was trying to say, thought I'd just show why I (on some occasions) prefer investing in defence rather than just try to fit all the big hitters in my team. Now watch me completely fail this season, haha  ;D! Still haven't picked a team, too much still going on and need to watch a few more preseason games.

To be fair I did Matty... I just like to tease in this thread.

Before [season] kick off - I have a fair idea Kane will score a few but how do you pick which defenders are gonna keep clean sheets? 😊

      ------------------------------------------------------------

Just checked back there troops... last season was my 10th season at this and it's interesting to see how easy/difficult it has been from season to season.

      In 2008/09 I scored 2,028 and finished in the 13ks... 2015/16 - 2,016 and I am in 564ks. Highest 2,337, lowest 1,852. 🙄

No he wouldn't mate. I forgot to take away the points for the amount of times we conceded 2 or more goals.

Milner would have got an extra 43 points for goals & clean sheets but he played in 9 games where we conceded 2 or more so overall he would have finished on 173. It would have been enough for top 3, only 5 points behind Cahill in 1st.

I might be missing something (probably). Surely smaller the league then the easier it is to work out each others team before the game starts?

Each user will have different players. You choose your 'shopping list' and then try to have the best possible team. If you choose Firmino and others will not have the choice to choose Firmino.

Do you wishing list and then on the day try to have a good team.

I get all that, but when you draft a player and he obviously then becomes unavailable to other teams, surely in smaller leagues it's easy to then work out what team they will have?

Last year I played togga draft, if the draft premier league is copying it, every team will have his/her players revealed.

First put them in the wish list then you can pick them tomorrow. If you will not be there in that time, according to your priority players, you will have make a list. Everything is explained in their website.

Just wish I wasn't the stubborn idiot who refused to put in Lukaku. Don't really have a choice now as I don't want my squad value to go down / Lukaku's price to rise too much because that would make it very annoying to get him in the team later on.

I was pretty happy with my starting eleven and almost all of them delivered. Sucks that Kane missed twice alone in front of goal, that would've made a massive difference.

Play all 3, far too much money on the bench otherwise that could be spent elsewhere

Can't can I ...it only shows 2 options for forwards.

Midfield I have Mane, Salah, Ali, Matic

Edit...don't tell me that I can play players anywhere on the pitch :f_doh:

OK so I moved it around..you still can't play a forward back in Defense..and are limited to 3 strikers...but yeah..should have played tekkers last week also.

      Now playing a 3-4-3 formation :)

Sterling withdrew from the England squad for their upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil because of a back issue.
The severity of Sterling's injury is unclear, but given that England are only playing friendlies and not World Cup qualifiers, it wouldn't be shocking to see him return for City's match at Leicester on Nov 18.

      74 days lost to injury
It’s a so bad for LFC.
Jürgen Klopp's team are renowned for their pressing and high-intensity sprints, and they suffered a succession of muscular injuries during his first season at Anfield. This season they have lost fewer days to injury than any other club. Sadio Mane was absent for a few weeks with a hamstring problem, and Nathaniel Clyne and Lallana are still awaiting their first appearances of the season due to back and thigh injuries respectively. Daniel Sturridge has managed to stay available for selection for most of the campaign, which knocks off a large proportion of their days lost in a previous season.

Ithink gomez is the weak link against west ham, beaten too easily by lanzini (score 1 and miss 1) and arnautovic. I was fuming why klopp didnt send more help to gomez side. luckily west ham totally lost their motivation after ox score our 3rd goal.

So, I've had a decent rank on fantasy football this season, top 20k of 5mill+. Well tonight I became the definition of unlucky...bare with me.

      1) Lost Mariappa clean sheet in the 90th min
      2) Had a minus point from Mariappa in the 92nd min
      3) Lost Courtois clean sheet in the 92nd min
      4) Diouf clipped the bar for Stoke
      5) I was going to put MacArthur in my team last minute but thought "nah, wasted transfer, never does anything". Comes on in the 77th, scores the winning goal in the 92nd.

Are you not in this year's LFC REDS league? Or only the head-to-head one? Can't seem to find your team.

After yet another bad start to my FPL season, rebounded well and back up top. Doubt I'll be top after this GW though, some unfortunate injuries with Ward, Morata and probably Salah who will sit out too. Hopefully Ward's injury isn't serious, that would completely mess up my transfer plans for the coming gameweeks.

Hoping to win the LFC REDS league twice in a row! :D

So, my next rant is linked to this.

The player I would have taken out for this change would have been Andy King. BUT!! Andy king actually played and scored and bagged a respectable 7 points tonight.

He's my 3rd sub and all was going well until the 80th....of our game and Mr Klopp decided that at 0-0, he would put on Gomez, who I had starting in my team, which meant bye bye King points.

The next stroke of bad luck this week, Gomez managed to bag an assist....EXCEPT THE GOAL DIDN'T STAND!!!!

What is this f**king witchcraft, how can someone have so much bad luck in 1 game week?!

How did you do overall? Managed to have my highest finish so far at 3k. I tried to avoid point hits this season, the annoying thing is, if I’d had the confidence to do them, I would have finished higher.

Biggest regret I think though will be having Aubamayang as VC and Kane C when I played my triple captain chip last week. Aubamayang smashed it and Kane manages just the 1 goal.
