Sturridge has contributed some nice stuff in fairness but it's just a shame he doesn't quite have that pace any more.

Look at that last chance he got, he had enough time to take that shot and it was waaaay off.

Decent run out that. Would have expected more from Gini, Grujic and Hendo in midfield in both halves or am I being too harsh?

If clubs don't want to sell, then there is nothing Klopp can do about it, but if you want to follow a club who buys anything that moves, then we are not that club any more. Rodgers tried the buy anyone method, and that worked well, didn't it? (No it did not, if you thought I was serious.)

This is a pre-season warm up game, with a second (11) team playing in the second half... just enjoy the game.
Rodgers brought in players like Allen, Borini, Mignolet, Aspas, Markovic.... etc.... I think we will strengthen but this game is a stark reminder it is needed. Klopp is the right man to fix Rodgers wrongs.

Yep, thought he should have scored a couple, one when through from Hendo and one when it just bounced off him in the box.

Definite lack of pace still evident there though.

As for first half vs second half, clear to me the first half team is filled with a lot more quality.

2nd half performance nothing to write home about, save the final few minutes. Joe Gomez the only one of the 2nd group who really acquitted himself well over the 45. He is looking much more like the pre-injury Gomez though, so that is promising.

Nothing more than a run out to build up fitness.

Less said about that 2nd half the better.

Allen should have been kept... As for the rest I feel Borini was down to Rodgers and rest down to the FSG transfer committee more than Rodgers

Less of the exhibitionist stuff in the first half would have seen 3 or 4 in that first half.

Sturridge should have scored at the end.

Salah looked good - no nerves and for a first proper game looked to have a good understanding with the other lads up front.

Shame we can't defend set pieces properly though... ;)

We desperately need a ball player in the hub of midfield, a player that demands and take control of the ball!

      Keeping that idea in mind,
Even when I think of the players we have,
I'm convinced there's a lad out there who would fit perfectly into our side,
To tell you the truth it's quite obvious,
And if you look close enough there's a hint in this post! :D

      Naby? :O

I like Hendo as a player, and off the ball defensively and offensively, he is very good, but he lacks that authority when we are in possession in comparison to Lucas.  I think he is far better than Wijnaldum, Can and Grujic as a #8 though!

Decent run out that. Would have expected more from Gini, Grujic and Hendo in midfield in both halves or am I being too harsh?

Not being too harsh at all, I agree. Maybe Grujic and Hendo are feeling the effects of the first week of training after both being injured for quite some time? I can imagine the lads have had it pretty rough so far under Klopp and his fitness team! I'm not really worried about Wijnaldum, I was watching the midfield three of him, Coutinho and Lallana closely and it was more a pass and move training exercise than anything else. They were constantly moving in a circle and picking up eachother's positions. His passing was waaay of though tonight. Probably no coincidence that Grujic, Wijnaldum and Hendo looked a bit off as they have been at Melwood since the start of preseason and Lallana and Coutinho have only just arrived?

      First half:

As Luke said earlier, it was an enjoyable first half, even if we didn't manage to score more than one. Some lovely play with Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino and Salah all involved. Nice of Firmino to put it on a plate for Salah, easy goal on his debut! You can instantly see what Salah has to offer to this team, it will be very exciting to watch when everyone is fully fit.

Trent AA looked great again too. Against teams that sit deep he could be of much more use than Clyne by the looks of it. He looks so much more comfortable with the ball at his feet compared to Clyne. Think I'd still prefer Clyne in the big games though, but Trent is making a good case to start a fair few games in the league.

      Second half:

Pretty poor second half. Thought Henderson and Sturridge should have done more. You'd expect Sturridge to bury that chance at the end, completely missed his shot. Origi looked lively with some good touches and it's great to see young Joe Gomez being fit again.
