Premier League Asia Trophy Hong Kong 2017 Tournament
      Jul 16, 2017 10:29:58 am

The four-team knockout competition, for which tickets have sold out, will take place over two matchdays on Wednesday, 19 July and Saturday, 22 July 2017, both in the Hong Kong International Stadium.

The Premier League Asia Trophy is part of the League’s ongoing commitment to fans in Asia as well as the development of the game.

      Premier League Asia Trophy fixtures

      Wednesday 19 July
6pm Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion
8.30pm Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace

      Saturday 22 July
      6pm Third-place play-off
      8.30pm Final

      *all times local

Another pointless PR competition. Personally I can not see the point in traveling halfway around the world for 2 games in 3 days, and then come home again for the Audi Cup 5 days later.

Can't be a good way to keep fit, can it?

But hey, here is the thread for you to discuss this worthless trophy, but if we win, GET IN.

Previous winners are: Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth & Arsenal.

We were last in this competition in 2007, when we lost in the final to the mighty Portsmouth on penalties. 0-0 (4-2)
Goalkeeper David James was the hero as Portsmouth withstood a Liverpool barrage before snatching the Asia Trophy title 4-2 on penalties in Hong Kong overnight.

I hope Moreno is an exception to this logic  :) (unless we're shipping him to the Chinese league).

1st - why does the EPL need to limit how many players LFC travel with for a meaningless competition? For that matter, why couldn't Liverpool take more players on the trip for training purposes, even if they know the players won't play in either of the two matches?

      Now about the squad:

      GKs: Karius, Mignolet, Ward
D: Clyne, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Klavan, Moreno,Matip, Flanagan, Alexander-Arnold.
M: Wijnaldum,  , Coutinho,  , Henderson, , Grujic,  Lallana, Stewart
F: Firmino, Salah, Sturridge, Origi, Solanke, Kent, Woodburn,

If you wanted two teams of 11 for two matches, I guess you havve that, plus one extra defender and one extra forward.

I can see why he doesn't want to drop one of these forwards at this point, but I'm really starting to wonder what his plans are for Moreno, whose main role with the club at the moment seems to be friend of the Brazilians.

Top planning going to the Far East in monsoon season.

Not like United's preparations last season were ruined by the weather last season or anything.

And the sun is cracking the flags in Liverpool! Serves them F***ing right.  Nobody can ever tell me football decisions come first these days - it's all about the £££ and lets face it - they're not short of it.

      not.

Same as Andy Murray at Wimbledon Skip, teararseing all over the globe chasing money and commercial enterprise leaving him fu**ed for the real challenge.

The same carry on last season for us, they looked fu**ed after the close season 'break'.

Good job we'll have some new signings to...to.......

      As you say not...

      not.

They all fly 1st class, its a it different form the cattle class most of us have to endure, and jet lag goes in a few days after they are back. Meanwhile we massively raise our brand over there which means increased revenues, which means being able to compete with the big boys financially, so stop all this whinging please.

With this weather, I wonder if the matches are in jeopardy. I get the PR benefit and hopefully the training is useful, but please let's not send the team out on a horrible pitch for a meaningless match.
