That is the big question re this math, then.

Lovren and Moreno have been shaky, and he's resting Trent.

This couldn't be 5 at the back, with Milner and Robertson as wingback, and Gomez, Matip and Klavan as center backs, could it?

Was thinking the same when I seen the line up.

Boss hinted hed rest Trent today. No harm in that. Lovern and can out is a plus. Salah on bench is odd but no harm having him to sprinh. Great to see Danny start

Boss said he didn't want Trent, at his age, playing 5 matches in 14 days. This would be the match to rest him, in that case.

OK, we have a game vs Hoffenheim to come, but still surprised so many changes in back 4. Thought Gomez has looked sluggish preseason, and Robertson not that sharp. But we'll see I guess.
Would've left out Gini instead of Emre, and not sure Milner will add much in midfield.
Pleased though to see Studge up top ... but he needs creative balls into him, so will miss Coutinho again. Or starting Salah instead of Milner.

STILL should have enough to beat a poor CP, without Zaha.  Need the CBs to keep Mr mental coache quiet.

Just get it done lads. COYRs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      What we thinking here?

Prioritising Champions League playoff or genuine changes due to form/tiredness?

Would have gone with Solanke instead of Sturridge, Grujic instead of Hendo and Salah instead of Mane due to Mane looking knackered at the end of the last game.
      But, what do I know

Glad to see the boss has switched it around at the back he obviously thought as most of us did that lovren deserved some time on the bench, not surprised to see TAA left out although there is a rumour doing the rounds that he's injured but I tend to believe the boss when he says he's been given a rest, the lad played a blinder on Tuesday & ran his bollocks off.
Looking forward to seeing Robertson play as I recon this lad has plenty of talent and pace in spades going for 3-1 here and hoping Danny gets on the score sheet &  makes it through the game.

I'd guess prioritising CL play off.

Definitely a calculated gamble with priority on Hoffenheim.

      Must be priorities for CL.
Would love a proper run out for Solanke but I can wait.

In my opinion, the boss had to of seen how bad Lovern and Moreno played last Tuesday, we will see if they are named on the team sheet this upcoming Wednesday tie at Anfield.

It's not like they played on Thurs, it was Tues. So can't be tiredness imo.
Obviously though the side is picked with that 2nd leg in mind.
Bit of a risk, but I guess you have to be able to rotate, and if we get past Hoff, we'll have to do it more. Just don't have the added squad depth we were promised, not yet anyway (have to keep saying that I guess  until the window actually closes).

Not gonna pretend am not a bit nervous, really could do with the win here against one of the 'minnows'.

Don't think Danny would be playing if not for Hoff match. So BIG change for Studge to DO something and if he's staying, to push for a more regular starting place.  Cmon Danny.

      CMON BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, do our own players not realize how sh*t they are at set pieces? That was such a piss poor foul to give away by Milner. Townsend had nowhere to go and you had Robertson giving you cover. So much for an experienced PL player.
