Appalling performance tonight..curious to see if Klopp indeed promised a place in midfield as rumoured and who's place is he going to take..although based on tonight's performance I hoped he lied to him >:D

is there any proof Klopp said anything about AOC and midfield time? i'm quite sure people just made that up with Milner signing, has it happened again?

Way to support the new signing lads  :-\

He's not even pulled on the shirt or worked to Klopps instructions and fans are sticking the boot in. 👏

Remember thats Klopp who has improved the likes of Lallana, Can, Mane, Coutinho etc etc etc

At least let him have a training session 👀

Spot on. This lad has a "Hendo-esque" effect on some.

Even if/when he makes a positive impact there'll be a few won't acknowledge it.

Most who are sceptical of the signing will remain objective and get behind but a few will seize on every opportunity to say "see I said he was pish you should listen to me"......

.......and then I'll put them on ignore ;)

He's going to be quality. I can feel it.

Last night was bad though, he played a 3/10.

I think on the showing of the last two England games i'd rather we went to the casino with that 40 million and stuck it on red and bought Lemar with the winnings. If we lost we could have just waited 12 months and picked him up for free anyway.

But! That's England! Lets get him back to Melwood and see what Klopp can do with him. Needs a big hug and to be made to feel 10 feet tall by Klopp and we could see the rewards.

No, nothing has been said by Klopp whatsoever. Henderson did mention that he had qualities which meant he could play wing back or in the middle.

I think the whole central midfield thing comes from the report that AOC had a conversation with Conte, before deciding to join us, which revolved around his place in the squad, namely that he'd be fighting Victor Moses for the wing back spot. It seems he got the impression he'd only be able to play wing back, and that formed part of his reasoning in turning Chelsea down. No idea if Klopp told him he's more open to playing him in different positions during their conversation, but seeing as we don't play with wing backs very often it seems more likely he'll be used as a wing forward or one of the three CMs.

Just like the game before that against Malta. Slight improvement on the horror show he was part of when we thumped Arsenal. I think 3/10 is his consistent level, 5/10 is him on a good day.

Come on mate, he's better than that.

There's a reason why Arsenal, Chelsea and Klopp wanted him.

I will reserve judgement until I've seen him play for us and I will also give him this season to improve and gel into the team, if at the end he is still sh*t then we deal with that at that time, but until then lets try backing him.

We once wanted Carlton Cole. Doesn't make him good.

Also Chelsea tried for him, Barkley and ended up with Drinkwater after inning off Matic so that shows you the calibre they were after. All 3 English and 2 of them happened to be in the final year of their contract.

Genuinely interested, what is it you think is so good about him?

He has a terrible goal and assist record, he can't tackle, he struggles to beat his man, he's no threat in the air, he can't dictate the play and he can't cross. All he is really good at is running fast.

I can't remember the last time a Liverpool England international player having a good game for their country, It's England & English PL players normally flop on the international stage..

Let's let Klopp work his magic on Ox first before we judge him as a Liverpool player.

Who knows he might turn him into a stallion.

I think it's attitude/mentality and athleticism Klopp looks for first. Player's service yesterday was not good, there's no denying. But if he can pick up the finer points of the pressing and show quality in the little touches transitioning from defense to attack - plus be available to back up at 6-7 positions, he can be an important part of a title-winning team.

I do think we paid too much, but I don't keep the ledger at the club, or even worry about it, so now that he's here, so what?

Looking forward to seeing how Klopp develops and utilizes him.

So why do you think we paid too much: is he not good enough?

I understand that a few reds are not taken in by this transfer, but, in an era of insane wages and greed, this lad rejected an additional wage of 60k pw to play for us. If indeed he was a boyhood Liverpool fan then he has really chosen a childhood dream over money and it really needs to be appreciated.  Let us not reject him before he has pulled on the shirt.

      He really wasn't.

I'd be interested to know what the contract actually is, I bet it's heavily loaded with bonuses on top of that 120k a week..

      JD done a post about his contract actually;

Let's not dwell on this too much.

      1. The 180 was dependent on CL football at Arsenal. Hmm...not likely for a while. Basic was likely similar.

      2. We've offered him 6 years. Arsenal were offering 4.

      3. We've got no idea what bonus deals LFC are giving him. Could be all sorts.

      4. His agent is Aidy Ward. He's probably getting all sorts of clauses (remember he insists on buyout clauses which LFC don't like anymore)

      Thanks for that KK.
But, there are a few important items that are missing and which are absolutely necessary to compare the contracts objectively (bear in mind he was earning 65k currently).

      1. What exactly was the fixed pay offered by Arsenal and how much of it was CL dependent? Was the fixed pay greater than 120k?
      2. Chelsea had tabled an offer of 220k pw. Even if it had playing-in-CL clauses and assuming Chelsea will be playing in CL regularly, he didn't even touch that contract with a bargepole.
      3. As JD has pointed out, we don't know the type of clauses that we have inserted in the contract. It could have CL related  clauses for all you know.

I guess we may never know any of the above details.

Did Chelsea even offer him a contract? They had an offer accepted but that is as far as that deal got and now I'm reading apparently Southgate played a huge part in him turning away the Chavs.

I don't know, none of us will know exactly what was offered by anyone but what I do know is that he's not what we needed and I'm confident we are going to end up selling him for a lot less than we signed him for. But, that's just my opinion I guess.
