It's the Reds against Rafael Benitez at St James' Park in a fixture that never fails to entertain.

Rafael Benitez isn't the only former Liverpool man in the Newcastle ranks these days.

Jonjo Shelvey - who made 69 appearances for the Reds and scored seven goals between 2010 and 2013 - will be hoping to line up against his ex-club this afternoon.

Javier Manquillo, who spent the 2014-15 on loan at Anfield, is also in the Toon squad.

      Line-up:

      Training:

      The ground:

      Team comparison:

      Here's a few factual corkers...

      - There has not been a goalless draw between these teams in the league since February 1974 - a run of 62 clashes
      - Liverpool have scored 36 goals at Newcastle in the Premier League era, more than at any other away ground
      - The only Reds player to appear for every minute in the league so far this season is Joel Matip

      Klopp's pre-match presser:

Liverpool: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Sturridge

Substitutes: Karius, Klavan, Milner, Can, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino, Solanke

Newcastle: Elliot, Ledlin, Lascelles, Clark, Manquillo, Ritchie, Merino, Shelvey, Atsu, Perez, Joselu

Substitutes: Darlow, Gamez, Lejeune, Diame, Hayden, Murphy, Gayle

Firmino dropped/rested then, fair play to Jürgen not showing favourites there as been levelled at him in the past, let's hope Sturridge takes his chance and smashes a hat-trick.

Do think Rafa will try to set up more defensively but can't see anything but a victory for us. 4 or 5 in the onion bag would do us the world of good.

Fancy us to win this one. Gomez needs a run of games if he's going to get his old form back, so I'm glad he's starting today.
Sturridge will get 2 today, Mane and Salah will open up the space he needs. 2-1 Liverpool.

Robertson can't even make the bench, is Moreno really our best left back.
Would put ward in place of karius too

Another four man attack.  Saw Klopp's ears pr**k up when Sturridge's stat v Newcastle was mentioned in the press conference.  Hopefully he adds to his impressive record there today.

Had thought that Oxlade Chamberlain may have got a game here.  Wijnaldum is anonymous enough away from home, but maybe Klopp thinks playing at Newcastle might be half-like a home game for him!

Firmino and Can didn't cover themselves with glory midweek so I can't see too many complaints with the line up.

That's a pretty attacking selection. Certainly going for the jugular with that lineup :)
What is going on with Robertson? Not even on the bench.
Tad disappointed Can dropped to the bench, but if things get physical, would expect he'll come on.
Big chance for Sturridge, think this is a game were we can get goals, just need to take more of the chances we get.
Would expect Coutinho though to be the main man again.

That Newcastle side is awful but they have the great man leading them. It won't be easy.

We should win this, still. Hoping for a Danny hat-trick, a Coutinho cracker and a Lovren tackle.

Yeah, saw that too, thought there was a good chance for a change and as you say there can't be too many complaints. Two poor performances on the trot from Bobby, only fair on Studge to give him a crack at it, let's just hope he takes it.

Wijnaldum with an away performance at his old ground, could it feel like home away from home?! :D

Is Robbo on the sick or it Klopp switching full backs. Would of thought Robbo would suit Sturridge, get on the end, etc. Or does Klopp think Moreno is the better defender.

Milner didn't do that much wrong last season, now he could easily be third choice full back and way down the list for a midfield place.

Still...0-2 today with 346 open goals missed..

Made up for Danny lad, he's been the ultimate professional, got his head down and worked his bawbag off without moaning or chucking his toys out, must be so frustrating for him,
So i hope he bags a couple today at least and reminds Jürgen what he has in his locker,

Like most can only envisage a Reds win and hopefully a sh*t load of goals.

He's a new signing but Moreno doesn't deserve being dropped. He's playing well. Robbo has to be patient.

Lovren is a gentleman defender, one tackle, one header, one decent pass and he's got his day in. I mean he is just not hard enough..has he ever dished out an elbow..he needs to be a bit harder all round.

Bit reminiscent of the old days, same with Chamberlain as well - learn the system and then come on.  Not going to do any of our young players long term harm not to walk straight into the first team.

The thing with Robertson just is that you only want one replacement on your bench for the LB position. Milner can play there and knows exactly what's expected of him in that position while also being able to play various other positions in midfield. Makes sense to have him on the bench over Robertson. Who else would you switch to put Robertson on the bench?

Give it time, he'll come in slowly and I think it's becoming increasingly more likely that Milner will be allowed to leave at the end of the season with Robertson ready to take his spot.

Good to see Sturridge starting, fully expected him to do so with Firmino having played the full 90 in midweek. The Mane substitution which left Firmino on was clearly with the Newcastle game in the back of Klopp's mind.

Oh, thought Mane was still banned. Good stuff.

Don't like Moreno instead of Robertson. Do like Sturridge starting.
Pretty attacking line up. We should score at some point, although I think Rafa will set them up quite defensively. If we defend alright, we should win.

Personally, I would put Gomez in place of Lovren and put Milner in at RB. Then Gomez would be playing in his natural position and I think Milner is good (was for Shitty) on the right hand side.

Anyway, what do I know. Klopp is being paid to make these decisions. Hopefully, we will score at least 1 more than the oppostion.

I go for 2-1 to us.

Probably the right two chances in the front six. Need to change something up there to get us clicking again.

Would be a massive three points if we can get it done - back level with Spurs and ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal if we can do it.

I was saying the other day and stick with it, it doesn't matter too much who we play in this one up front, I think we will smash these to pieces. I've no doubt at all that if Firmino played he would score, and equally Sturridge can have no excuses if he doesn't do the same.

Really ought to be a goal difference job, I'm sticking with 4-0.
