Wooohoooo! Leaves us very well placed to get to the knockout rounds this.

Never got a chance to watch the match, so gutted, but what a result! Not often teams bang that many goals in this competition.

Milner putting in a claim for a regular starting place.
Never been his biggest fan to play in midfield but bloody hell how poor are our other midfielders!

Don't think we've seen enough of that getting to the touchline and getting the crosses in.

Thought he did very very well tonight.  Thought Can did a decent job as well playing a little further back.

Obviously it might not mean anything come Sunday but Milner's done himself no harm at all.

Also on Moreno - I was probably up there as one of his biggest critics but the fella has not put a foot wrong this season.

Well in to Oxlade-Chamberlain as well on his goal - you don't want these new signings hanging around on 0 for too long.

Well done boys on a superb job tonight, deserve every accolade going, I know it was only Maribor, but, you can only play what's in front of you, very professional job, good creative play and wow, wasn't it great to see us put those chances away, can't wait for the return leg at Anfield  :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Yea, thought Milner did well. Moved the ball forward quickly, and got forward himself.
Maribor were poor, but you can only play what's in front of you.
No harm in giving Hendo something to think about by giving him a rest.
But will Jürgen leave out Hendo and go for Milner against Spuds? Would be very surprised, not necessarily based on form, but more given the manager is pretty cautious when it comes to making changes for big games.

Spartak did beat Sevilla 5-1.  :o

I think it was a good win to just change the dry stretch of the last weeks, but Maribor was too pathetic to grow real confidence out of this game. But a win is a win.  8)

That may have been the worst side I've ever seen play against us... And that includes TNS.

However, the fact that we beat them by the 7 goal difference we were better than them is excellent.

All of our players were better than theirs, thought Milner was awesome but gave my MOTM to Trent because I'm made up to see a scouse lad scoring in Europe again.

Also Sevilla getting spanked by Moscow, GET IN LADS!

Let's stick F***ing 10 past them next time!

I'd be shocked since Can was playing in Hendo's position.

Don't be shocked to see him or Gini dropped in favour of Milner though.

Milner 93% accuracy, Moreno 92% and 6/6 challenges won with 5 other tackles (stats at the top of this page).  Excellent.

Also Sevilla getting spanked by Moscow, GET IN LADS!

Not sure what I want now for their second game.  Had thought two draws between them would have been the best results for us.  Spartak are not mugs.  We probably played better against them than Sevilla and we ended up with two draws.

We need two wins from three.

When we beat Aston Villa 6-0 at the start of 2016 I thought that was pretty appalling on reflection.

Milner putting in a strong showing is good and he might even give Klopp the idea of playing a 4-4-2 type plan. Generally Klopp plays 4-3-3. But an inform Spurs need to be respected.

Coutinho wth just Salah up front, with Hendo,Can,Milner and Wijnaldum might be the way to go. We still have the pace of Salah to hit them on the break.

Now that was a walk in the park and a thoroughly dominant performance rewarded with the goals we've deserved all season imo.

Few mentions because there's too many pluses to go through them all really:

Firmino and Salah are absolutely deadly together, the movement, interchange and same wavelength is a joy to behold. This partnership could really get tasty. The fact Bobby was more than happy to give the goal to Salah just shows what he's like, terrific performance from them both.

Milner, well in lad! That's how you stake a claim for one of our #8 positions, tremendous performance.

Karius, did what he had to do but the clean sheet will do all our defence, him especially the world of good.

Alby! My MotM, thought he was near flawless on the night, a full-back/wing-back performance of pure delight, I loved every minute of it. Dominated them, positionally was absolutely brilliant and gave them nothing.

Jürgen, well in fella. Take a bow at a 7-0 demolition job away from home in the CL, that's how it's bloody done mate!

Now I know these were sh*te, so I'm not going to go over the top but they aren't as bad as we made them look. Credit to our lads for being superb and the Spartak result just shows how decent it actually was to get a draw out there. Some of us said that at the time to a fair amount of derision, well it looks a damn sight more obvious now.

Great to see AOC and Trent get goals too, even though they were either lucky or relatively easy they should both help their confidence. Have to be honest though before that I thought AOC was poor and wasteful and Gini was our worst player by some distance. Should have finished a sublime move but the lad just loses the plot away from home. I'd have no issue whatsoever in dropping him for Jimmy who was superb.

      Love it!!

...and 10 minutes into the Spurs game all this bonhomie will dissipate. This team may not be in crisis but it will be if we get turned over by Spurs and tonight's game, while it is a confidence boost it will not solve the problems we have in almost every department.

Got to get a result against Spurs, if we do..I will look at tonight's result and judge it as the start..the start of some good form. As a one off result it will mean little if we do not go on and bounce off it.

The first goal took all the wind out of their sails, and when we went 3-0 up inside 20 minutes, they just looked shell shocked.

They showed signs that they can play, but they have the same problem Celtic have; a big team in a small league with no real competition.

That said, we were pretty ruthless, and even though we never really got up to full speed in the 2nd half, we still looked like we could score at will.

I had Milner as MOTM, but I could easily have given it to Moreno, or Firmino, or Salah.

Great result, now we need to build on it.
