No Lovren, Mignolet and Henderson then I’m happy.

From Klopp’s quotes this morning it sure sounds like Lovren could very well start.

Got completely the opposite vibe myself.

      Find out soon enough though!

Including yourself if your favourite Missalot is dropped in favour of Karius.

You must really think "Missalot" is an amazing, smart nickname because you seem to use it in every post, but believe me, it's not :D

Hahaha can definitely see Mignolet starting tomorrow.

Will someone check Frankly's blood pressure around kick-off time ;)

Already got the defibs in place.  :gt-happyup:

My favourite? Slight exaggeration given that he is one of only 3 options, and clearly better than the other 2.

All I'm saying is, put away the emotions, and play the best keeper.

Don't think anybody knows who our best keeper is.  But we all know who it isn't and it doesn't take three guesses. ;)

Ha ha... as you know; "back in the day..."

      #1 = Keeper

      #2 = Right Back
      #3 = Left back
      #4 = Right half
      #5 = Centre half
      #6 = Left half

      #7 = Right wing
      #8 = Inside right
      #9 = Centre forward
      #10 = Inside left
      # 11 = Left wing.

      They lined up...

           #1

      #2 #5 #3
        #4 #6

       #8 #10
      #7    #11
           #9

What punters think they are now... Only f**k knows but I have a real suspicion that half the fuckers (that use them numbers now) dont have a baldy themselves: that they only repeat what they've heard/read in order to look savvy. 😉😂

So how should I refer to our three midfield roles (in Jürgen's system)? Defensive mid, central mid, attacking mid?

As an old fart what is the difference when people refer to 6's and 8's, is this is footie manager thing ? It's been confusing me for a while now

Most of the time when talking about 6's and 8's people (or at least I think they do) refer to the positions in the traditional 4-3-3 that was used by Johan Cruijff and the "Dutch football school". It's how I've always learnt the positions.

      This should help visualise it:

On the left is the traditional 4-3-3.

6 is the most defensive / deepest midfielder. It doesn't have to be a certain type of player, this could be a Mascherano type of player, Xabi Alonso, ...

8 is the box-to-box player, both Gerrard and Lampard are the best examples of real 8's in the traditional 4-3-3.

10 is the playmaker. Coutinho / Firmino is closest to that in the current squad.

On the right is the 4-3-3 which we currently use. We don't have a traditional 10 (playmaker) in that set-up. In our formation, it's Firmino who plays as the 10 (which is why we call him a 'false 9' and why people shouldn't call him a striker). Instead of a 10, we use two box-to-box 8's (Wijnaldum and Lallana). So when people use 6's to refer to players / positions, they refer to the position Henderson plays in and when referring to 8's, it's the positions Wijnaldum and Lallana play in. When Robby The Z mentioned Chamberlain as an 8, that's the position Klopp has brought him in for (Lallana's position, the 8 on the right).

Great post mate and that's how I interpret it as well.

For me the best '8' in the left side formation in our squad is Henderson but that leaves us with no '6'.

I think Jürgen plays Hendo as a 6 as he is the only player in the squad he trusts to play there.

Looks like Cou is oot, so the Ox has his chance id go with thus ......

                           Karius
          Trent Gomez Matip Robertson
                Wijnaldom Emre Can
            Salah      Firmino   Oxlade
                           Solanke

Risky yes but a few need a wake up call including Henderson, can't afford to lose so its vital we don't,

Hope Jürgen has laid down the law and i hope we get a response, going to be a tough game but i still think we can do them .

Whatever way you want to young Robby. 😊

BUT, in the context of my conversation with Fatso... the 'numbers' which I listed and the positions they related to are 100% accurate. 👍

      Wow, expectations are low.

Pretty sure with being at home we'll turn up, maybe away there'd be a concern that FSG have cut the travel budget but at home I think that's taking things just slightly too far at this stage. Although I will say had Amanda Staveley bought us then there wouldn't even be a doubt about it.

They will turn up, play with two lines of four for 90 minutes, we will huff and puff, they will break away and score a flukey goal from a corner. We will have umpteen-zillion shots on goal - most of them from 30+ yards out but ultimately fail to score.

      Same as always really

Looks like Mignolet and Lovren will both start.

Neither should even be at the club after plenty of evidence they are both not good enough for the level 'want' to be at.

I thought Klopp was going to be ruthless when he arrived, transfer Rodgers' bloated and unbalanced squad.

Instead, he's basically spent another 2 seasons pretending to be Dorothy and teach the cowardly Lion to keep goal and find the scarecrow a brain.

May as well throw in the towel now then. They go into this game high on confidence having beaten the makes where as we go into this with zero confidence and them 2 clowns are a large part of the reason why. We are there for the taking as it is and they know this, they have nothing to lose. If Migs and Lovren start I genuinely think we will lose this match. It's not good thinking this way but this season we have been in just as much of a state as when BR got the boot.

We've gotta go for Karius in goal and Gomez at CB IMO.

Said this a few months ago.  Can is hit/miss to begin with.  Factor in his lack of commitment and I'd rather give the minutes to Grujic.  I think Grujic has loads of talent, just needs time to develop.

Same can be said of Solanke.  With Coutinho, Lallana, and Mane all injured, it could be a good time to experiment with players like Grujic and Dom.

You could also make a case for none of Migs, Karius, or Lovren to ever play for us again, so there is plenty of room for changes in the side.  I'd go for:

      Ward
      Trent - Gomez - Matip - Moreno
      Gini - Grujic
      Salah - Bobby - Ox
      Dom

      We'll probably play:

      Migs
      Gomez - Matip - Lovren - Moreno
      Hendo
      Can - Gini
      Salah - Bobby - Ox
