      Pre-Match: Liverpool v Southampton - Sat 18th Nov 3pm Premier League
      Nov 15, 2017 12:40:37 pm
Internationals over now for 4 months.  Mauricio Pellegrino, former reds player and assistant to Rafa is in charge and they've got some lad called Virgil van Dijk in defence.

Coutinho is fit again.  Lovren has had some games under his belt since his Spurs cameo and Lallana could be ready to return to the squad to face his former club.  Nothing definite on Sadio Mane yet but expect him to be fine.

Liverpool are 4 points off 2nd place in the league.

Southampton are in 13th.  They have lost 2 and drawn 3 of their last 5 games.  Their defending has been better than ours - their problems seem to be scoring - they've got just 9 goals so far this season.

Can't see Lallana starting.  same team as Wham, with coutinho coming in for Ox.

      Danny Ings to make bench.

Not sure I want to see Coutinho start ahead of Ox. Was quite impressed with the intensity and balance with Ox in the team. However, if Mane is truly injured, Ox and Salah as our wide players with Coutinho in midfield with Wijnaldum and Hendo. I can see Southampton playing counter attacking football for the majority of the match, so having Hendo as the #6 would be wise!

One of those awkward teams Southampton. If they lose against bottom of the league then it's no real surprise, but if the beat a team in the top 6 it's no real surprise either.

We put 7 past Maribor without Henderson in the side and we put 4 past West Ham without him there. So keep him out please Jürgen. Don't risk Mane either.

      My team would be:

      Karius

      TAA
      Gomez
      Matip
Moreno  (doesn't deserve to be dropped)

      Can
      Wijnaldum
      Ox

      Coutinho
      Firmino
      Salah

But I think we will see:

      Mignolet

      Gomez
      Klavan
      Matip
      Moreno

      Henderson
      Can
      Wijnaldum

      Coutinho
      Firmino
      Salah

We really should be looking to win this game quite comfortably, Southampton are not the same team as last year, it will be interesting to see how VVD plays ;-)

If it were up to me:

      Karius

      TAA
      Gomez
      Matip
      Moreno

      Can (holding)
      Henderson (pushed up)
      Coutinho

      Mane
      Salah
      Firmino

Their attack sucks and their defence is rock solid. All the makings of us being pipped on the counter. Just hope we get an early goal to bring them off their line a little.

Karius; TAA, Matip, Gomez, Moreno; Henderson, Coutinho, Lallana; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Think we need to start being more positive in these games where teams will come and put ten behind the ball. TAA at right back and Coutinho and Lallana both in the centre allows that.

I don't think we need to start Mane if he came back with a twinge and he was certainly not fit against the Hammers, he will be needed against Chavs and Sevilla so bring him on if he is needed.

      What I would like

      Karius
      TAA
      Gomez

      Moreno

      Can
      Gini
      Ox

Do you think there’s enough creativity in the mid 3 to get a decent amount of service to the front 3 ?

If Mane is fit I'd be very tempted to go a bit Kamikaze with this......

                                  Karius
          Trent     Gomez    Matip    Moreno
                              Emre Can
                     Lallana         Coutinho
                 Salah                          Mane
                                Firmino

Saints couldn't score in a tarts boudoir on a freebie, so not much chance of finding the onion bag at Anfield, we on the other hand can for the first time play the fantastic 5 , and create f***in havoc, Can holding in front of a promising back 4(temporary) and a box demanding young hungry keeper in goal(give the fella a run of games)

Time to create havoc with Lallana, Coutinho supplying a front three in Salah, Mane & Firmino rotating , Virgil et al will be bamboozled and won't know which way to turn,

      Lets f***in do this !!

                         Gini  Hendo
             Salah    Coutinho    Mane
                          Sturridge

With Firmino and Lallana coming on as subs.
Though reckon Jürgen will start Migs :(  And Firmino.
Reckon bit early for Adam to start, maybe 20 mins at the end.

With Mane and Lallana now coming back, things starting to look better.
No clue if Lovren will start - I'd steer clear - but Jürgen does his own thing.

We need to go on a run ... so a win would be nice ...

That should do it. Lallana to come off the bench around 70 minutes to get some game fitness as we'll be comfortably up 3-1 at that point.

      Lovren

      Lallana
      Sturridge
      Solanke

I think the Mane return was a political one and I think he's fit
Get Lallana on for half hour for minutes

I don't think these will be very adventurous so Trent at rb and Gomez starting cb

It's gonna be interesting to see if both Lovren and Van Dyke play opposite each other tomorrow in front of the Anfield crowd for the first time this year(I think)
Dejan Lovren as a Liverpool centre half is walking on thin ice and Van Dyke needs to show me and I'm sure a few of us what all the fuss is about..
For me, I'd start with the same 11 and formation as the West Ham game, although something tells me Southampton will bring a different bite to their game in midfield so If I was gonna change anything I'd check on Mane's fitness and maybe drop him to the bench and put Coutinho into the mix.

If Mane is fit to play and Mo Salah and Bobby F are on blob we'll destroy them.

Interesting to see Jurgens line up what with a tough one away in Seville mid week.

1-0 or 5-4 don't care, so long as we win !

Heard that Klopp said Lallana wasn't ready for 90 minutes, but he said that about Mane the other week and then he surprised us all by having him start against West Ham.

If Coutinho starts he needs to improve his win percentage with us!

Klopp must be happy to have some good options to tweak personnel, formation, and tactics if desired.  He can field Gomez and Moreno at fullback in a back 4, or shift to a back 3 with the same players.  He can play a midfield 3, or a 4, or a 2-2-2 like against West Ham.  Coutinho can play on the wing if Mane needs to be tested, or in the hole if Mane is for.  Lallana off the bench is a welcome sight as well.

      I'd go:

      Migs
      Gomez - Matip - Klavan
      Chambo - Gini - Can - Moreno
      Mo - Bobby - Phil

We need Mane fit for the rest of the season, so I'd make 100% certain not to rush him back too early.  I think we're about to go on a nice run of wins -- I can feel it!!!

Coutinho #10 and with with Hendo + Wijnaldum playing as #6's, then let Coutinho roam freely.

Yeah let the pr**k roam very freely

Around Walton whilst we are playing would be sound

As one of the lads said earlier in the thread we always play sh*t or near enough sh*t, after the International breaks but this one hasn't really affected us as far as fitness levels go so there's no excuse..
Most, if not all of our lads had relatively easy run outs for their respective countries in paint drying friendlies..don't think any were involved in any of the hard fought WCQ play off games? Lovren maybe?

So, there shouldn't be any weirdness as far as tiredness and fitness levels go tomorrow..
We are playing on home soil on the back of three wins on the bounce.

Forster is a giant in goal and played a blinder last time he visited Anfield so we need to keep him busy all afternoon.
Our front three need to make Van Dyke's visit to the best stadium in the world, a nightmare and put him on his arse.

They'll come mob handed in midfield tomorrow and that's where their main threat will be trying to feed the skilful Gabbiadini who'll be up front on his own no doubt.

The way the game of football goes these days it wouldn't surprise me if Van Dyke got sent off and Lovren scored the winner in the 89th minute

Going to the game tomorrow, looking forward to seeing Lallana getting a run out at some stage later on in the second half, he'll be like a new signing, but after such a long lay off, I don't expect too much, it'll just be nice to see him in the red shirt again.
I need to keep my eye on Jürgen tomorrow as I don't want him getting to animated on the touch-line and ending up back in the hossie, I'm in the lower new main stand tomorrow with a different view to normal, be nice to see the Kop in full flow instead of being in the thick of it.
After the super win at West ham a couple of weeks ago, let's hope we get stuck into these pretty quickly from the off, get a couple of goals and we can chill slightly....enjoy the game everyone and fingers crossed for a very nice 3 little points.
Will be interesting to see how VVD plays against us, hopefully he'll either score an og, give a pen away or let Bobby and co give them the run round  ;D

      Matip out injured.
It's almost like we should have signed a CB as a priority in the Summer,
and not doing so would result in a painful season.

Yeah me too, I think Coutinho actually stifles our attack when he plays. We seem a lot more potent without him in my opinion.

When he is on too much goes through him.

Don't see why we have to attack them from the first second. Patience and control have reaped 4 clean sheets at home in the league. It'll be about taking the chances we get as Southampton have been tight away from home this season.

Don't want to let them in by going gung-ho though. Only taken two points from twelve, when we've gone behind this season.

Yeah, think you're spot on with that mate.

I'd go with Klavan over Lovren and Hendo over Can. Klavan simply because I think Lovren has earned a demotion in the pecking order and Ragnar has done nothing to lose that spot as of yet. Can, I'm just not happy with his attitude, don't think he's putting in the full 100% and Jordan has been doing o.k. in there.

We were on a nice run before the international break, crucial we restart as we left off. To do so I think we need to come out of the traps absolutely flying, a few too many times this season we've needed Jürgen to work his magic at half-time and the Saints have been a bit of a struggle for us in recent times.

Be great to see Lallana back but, like you, I can't see him starting. Get a few goals up and then give him 20 - 30 minutes to get his match fitness started, we'll need him back to his best and I really do think we've missed him tremendously. Surprisingly, I think that more from a defensive aspect, or counter pressing angle than I do for his creativity.

      Let's smash these!

Just seen our recent record against them - hadn't realised it was that bad.  No goals in 4 and no wins in 5.

And Matip out is going to be a blow for us at the back.  Wonder what the chances are of a Gomez-Klavan pairing - probably very low?

Hmm, Matip out :( Wouldn't be surprised to see Lovren in. He'd have started last one if not got injured, so assume once he's popped all his pills Jürgen will give him serious consideration. The part of my brain that has grey matter in it is still wrestling with that, but given this lot are having major problems scoring, maybe it's not a bad game to ease him back in. Did I actually say that? I did - but only after remembering there are no better defenders out there. And while juggling competitions we need to keep our limited defensive options open.

Matip out is a worry but they aren't exactly Citeh in an attacking sense so we just need to focus on our attack and score more than them, simple as that.
Will be very very interesting to see if they start with VVD.
