Liverpool 3-0 Southampton: In game and Post Match discussion
      Nov 18, 2017 01:59:26 pm

Cloudy Anfield waiting for some magic

Starting XI: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Karius, Milner, Gomez, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Can, Solanke

Sadio Mane starts for Liverpool in this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Southampton at Anfield.

The forward has recovered from a slight reoccurrence of a recent hamstring injury to take his place in the Reds’ XI against his former club.

Jordan Henderson returns to the line-up following a thigh issue and Philippe Coutinho is back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dejan Lovren also begin the contest.

Joel Matip is ruled out due to a knock sustained this week.

Lovren has always looked better as a RCB, I think he will do well , and the team looks strong, no complaints from me other than Migs :D

I also hope we get Wijandum and Hendo as the #6's rather than #6 and 2x #8's

No Gomez at right back or even CB seems odd but other then that a good starting 11.

What are we thinking about Emre Can being on the bench here?  The start of the 'punishment' for not singing a contract or am I reading too much into it?

Thought Lallana was going to be on the bench

After him starting Mane the other week I was expecting him to start!  To be fair though - don't think Lallana's ever had a good game against Southampton for us - if you believe in all that kind of superstition stuff.

To be honest, I agree with it. Let him rot on the bench so he may lose his World-Cup place. He was too stubborn, no player is greater than the club.

I actually think he's still in his original pecking order. Basically it's:

      #6

      Henderson
      Can

      #8

      Coutinho
      Lallana
      Wijnaldum
      Can

It's just been that with so many injuries and having to rest people that he's been given a lot of minutes this season. Once Lallana is fit I think he only really gets in the side with Henderson out.

That's one of the reasons I'm not that bothered to lose him in terms of talent, just a bit sh*t to lose him for nothing.

My bigger concern is that CB pairing with Trent beside them, in fact out of the whole back 5 the most reliable is Moreno in defensive terms. Now I know he's improved but that alone should scare the sh*te out of us.

Yeah that'll do given what we've got.

Gomez probably rested after his International antics, Can probably dropped coz he's crap.

Should have started Gomez, even though it was only a pointless friendly, he'd have been going into this game high confidence. Lovren and Klavan is much more of a gamble than going for TAA and Gomez both starting.

Maybe Lovren will do us a favour and bottle it in the warm up again.

It's absolutely pathetic isn't it that a young, relatively untested player like Gomez SHOULD be starting this match ahead of 'experienced' fully fledged international like Lovren. Really shines a light on how utterly appalling he has been this season. Him and Mignolet have been at the heart of everything that is bad about Liverpool certainly this season and probably for the last two years.

Does continue to tickle me that some fans think Mignolet is justified his spot as first choice keeper by selecting him in their chosen eleven. He could put in 10 Gordon Banks saves today and he'd still be utter w*nk.

With regards to Lovren - we've got both Sevilla and Chelsea coming up in the next week.  If there was a game to 'rest' Gomez then this was probably the one wouldn't we all agree with that?
