Just woke up and I'm pissed off. Foot should be on the throat and instead we've let them off. Could still do something but Australia could also match us and then go beyond.

6/35 to end the innings (or something like that) was a massive sigh of relief for us, genuinely thought you lot were a chance at 500 the way they'd dug in. Malan's dismissal was a shocker after how he'd batted. Still think you built a nice score, but should have been more and you've let us have a sniff, for sure.

Sure England's plan to smith didn't involve bowling both sides of the wicket

6 wickets in hand and just about have the lead with two Marshes having batted. The mind boggles.

      Steve Smith is unreal though.

The pace in which Australia have caught the lead, and are now building on it, is quite something. Not frantic, just constant scoring pressure, runs ticking up quite nicely. Lead of 60 now, and Steve Smith just doubled.

Honestly by England's recent standards watching this is soul destroying., mitchell marsh looking a test batsman, things must be bad, credit to craig overton though for carrying out with a cracked rib, shame his brother jamie is so injury probe

Very similar to the India series last winter. Got into a few promising positions but it was always followed by some sort of collapse/poor bowling performance/great innings from the opposition. Just swap Kohli for Smith.

Jordan Henderson thinks Joe Root is a sh*t captain.

In all seriousness, the apathy from the English today was hilariously tragic. Might as well have been bowling beach balls on a consistent line and length. Smith and Marsh certainly batted well (did not think I'd write that sentence this morning) but F**k, aided by the fact you lot never seemed to actually wanna try and attack them. I was only watching intermittently (working all day) but everything I saw just looked like a processional.

One F***ing wicket in an entire day of Ashes cricket.

Meh our 82mph bowlers are not cut out for this stuff. Put a bit of swing and seem into the contest your batsman would be nicking off to keeper and slip every half hour. Smith probably included (because hes done it before).

Don't get me wrong you guys have taught us a lesson in hunger as well this series and to be able to bat time like Smith can is simply brilliant on any surface.

When its gun barrel straight you need more than what we have but our county game will never breed top class out and out quicks anymore. We start too early to cram in all the T20 stuff and we start on green seaming wickets where you don't need to bowl fast you just need to hit a length and the ball swings round corners. So what do we produce in the main? 80mph bowlers who can trundle in all day.

In these conditions though there's nothing for them.

I guess for you Aussies your conditions require brute pace to get wickets and your batsman can play hard hands, out in front of them, through the line of the ball and thats great. Until they come over here and the ball deviates and then they're stuffed as well.

Test cricket has become all about conditions so at present if you lot want to win the ashes and are willing to stay in and play properly we've got nothing to get you out.

Personally I like English conditions for cricket over any other because usually something is always happening and these 450 v 650 v 450 v 200 matches can be dull but obviously i'm aware you can't change your weather ;D.

Basically though we need to change our county scene and play later and play less matches if we want to produce some true quicks. That is never going to happen because the money is elsewhere and the county scene in England is dying or dead.

I think he's a prime example of what I'm saying. Put him at Lords facing Jimmy Anderson he'd do well to manage to get a nick on one let alone smash 200.

My God that was sh*t from the England bowlers, its bloody embarassing to only get 1 wicket in a whole days play even if you were bowling to completely negative ultra defensive players which they weren't!
Whitewash here we come unless Australia get bored in the 4th or 5th test.
