Only team I don't want is Bayern Munich - and not because I think we will lose but I don't think we need the whole Klopp/Germany thing - plus we've already played them (and hammered them) this season!

I want Basel.

I know the talk of "you can't pick opponents if you want to be champions" and all that, but having an easier ride wouldn't hurt (with all due respect to Basel, who are not a bad side).

Saying that, think we got pretty lucky with our group and that the luck might run out with a Madrid or Munich draw. Which hey, this is knock out now. An "easier" road would be nice, but sooner or later we're gonna be playing these teams.

Drink it in though. F**k it's good to be back.

Basel would be the easiest/shortest trip for the players and staff wouldn't it?

Would help the league campaign a little.

Definitely don't want Shakhtar for that reason.

Buy VVD and a #6 in January, and I will be happy for us to be pitted against anyone.

The away leg is the real test coming out of the group stages. This is what Keane meant when he said we haven't beaten anyone. He means over 2 legs in the knockout stage.

Is our defense strong enough to go to B. Munich, Real and do a shut out? Or any of those teams. Serville ran thru us, these teams are better than Serville. Getting thru one round isn't proof either. I'm confident we can make progress but we haven't proved we can live with the really top teams yet.

I want to see us show a lot more strength in defense with a lot less individual errors. We can't take a brittle defense to places like the  Bernabeu and wing it. Lot of work to be done if we are to shut Keane up.

So we can't play Seville or Spurs in this round?

Agree that Basel might be the ideal trip, but I suspect we'll get one of the heavyweights, Real, Juventus or Bayern.

And that is fine, because they won't beat us.

Basel as we can settle some scores for what they did to us during the last edition.

Juve probably the toughest there simply because they have the only defence that might be able to have a good go at containing us.

That being said though, if the right Liverpool turn up we’ll be a match for anyone so bring it on. Just feels brilliant being able to say we’ll be mixing it with the best in Europe in the New Year.
