I still think he lacks a bit of pace since his injury... but boy did we miss him..

The way he’s controlling those offside traps are a thing of beauty (although f**king scary to watch) - feels like he’s added more maturity and experience to his game

Saw a stat somewhere that shows that we are well ahead of all teams in terms of offsides against

He’s back to his devastating best.  The finest defender on the planet bar none.

Absolute colossus who obviously loves the club and will run through a brick wall for his team.

      We are blessed

You can always tell when he’s back to his best because he doesn’t get dribbled past even once in a game

Love the way he moves across the pitch and just Shepards the attacker away from the goal, doesn’t even have to make a tackle

What about Van Dijk at full tilt today? Some nerve from the West Ham player making him sprint.

please stop posting in the VVD thread as it gives people like me mini heart attacks thinking were going to read about an injury!!

In fact lock all player threads for those on international duty 😐

Thought yesterday was about as poor a game as I've seen him in red. Them getting in between lines and springing long troubled him much more than Joel.....

But......he is a 21st century Rolls Royce so that data will go into the computer and it'll be different next time.....

      Agreed.

He looked leggy at times to be honest.

Think he needs a rest against Benfica as well as Mo.

yeh he wasn't on it but the ease in which he dealt with Sterling one against one is just pure genius made him look like a 5 year old.  A duel between a kid and a man!

When Coutinho got ahead and Virgil just shifted the gears and dealt with him like a dad does to naughty boy.  Made chuckle to think virgil was half the price.   Big man is really back to his best!

Virgil said he came off cos he felt "a little twinge behind the knee". It will be checked out and hopefully be nothing. But we should rest him for the 2 league games even if the scan comes back fine, no way should we take any chances with his knee. Luckily Matip and Konate looked good as a partnership straight away.
