Correct you can’t but now is the time to at least start looking for his replacement in the next 12 months.

Needs to be re-signed at a minimum so we can cash in on a big transfer fee should he want to go. The worst thing we can do is let him run down his contract and get nothing for him knowing that his skills are probably going to start diminishing at some point in the nearer than later future.

Same with Mo. We need to protect ourselves so that we can recoup some money since we seem to be mostly a sell to buy club.

I mean he's made comments that lead you to believe the club hasn't really offered him anything yet. Take it for what it's worth...if it were me instead of Richard Hughes...I'd offer him a little bump in pay and a few more years so that if he decides to go after this year, we could recoup some money through a reasonable transfer fee vs a free transfer.

Pretty sad state of affairs when your captain is being asked about his contract situation and is saying no talks have been had. Clowns we have running the asylum and you can hear by the tone of his voice he's just as frustrated as us fans for the squad lacking in depth.

The guy is one of the best CBs in the world and will continue to be for at least the next couple of years, if not longer. If any other top club, and I do mean ANY, could get him right now on a free transfer they would jump at it and offer him a deal. We are effectively in that position - we could  have Virgil for the next 2 or 3 years for zero transfer fee - and we are still "weighing up whether to make him an offer".

The only rational spin I can put on this is that FSG are fully intending to make him an offer but are playing it cool to hold down his wage demands. If so, it's a game of poker that I very much hope they win. It's a big gamble. And for anybody who thinks it not - name who is out there that is better than him? And how much would we have to pay to get him? (And would FSG pay it if Virg ends up leaving on a free next summer?)

Much cheaper to pay the man than to try and buy his replacement right now as we obviously can only identify one player for any position apparently. Don’t F**k around with this. We really can’t afford to be replacing Mo, Trent and Virgil all at the same time while also trying to finally replace Fabinho. FFS
