A great start and you can see he has come here with the intention of sorting out the mess along side him.

The way he made Karius come out for balls he should have but didn't want to caught my eye. As of he was demanding higher standards.

The partnership with Matip for me asks questions going forward because they are both very similar. Tall, calm and composed. VVD however is far more dominant than Matip who needs a good shake and a slap to wake him up at times. I wouldn't mind a tougher player next to him in all honesty.

Anyway he's a big fella and a threat in the opponents box and a big wall to get around in our own.

He's got the lot, he has been known to switch off at times but if he can cut that out of his game he will be a huge success here.

A goal to knock the bitters out the cup is already a bit of pay back on the fee.

Got to be honest - I was a little bit nervous for him starting for the very first time in a Merseyside derby within a big atmosphere in the FA Cup. As debuts go, the stakes couldn't be higher so gauging how he'd handle the pressure and nerves was going to be interesting. With his big money tag you knew if he faltered then the press (and Alan Shearer - who was gagging for something terrible to happen to us, the c**t) would have a field day and would go into overdrive and start talking about worst debuts for high profile debutants and start comparing him to Woodgate for Real Madrid and...and...didn't happen.

The fact that he rose to the pressure with such an accomplished display (as well as the winning goal) speaks volumes already.

He was immense. Like someone else said, just give him the armband already before he decides to take it by force.

Said before tonight that I wasn’t sure about this one and I’m more than happy to hold my hands up and say I was wrong if he delivers that kind of performance on a regular basis.

He was immense, a mountain, a leader, a good header, tall, etc

What a player already. Robertson felt more comfortable with VVD next to him, who wouldn't?

Give him some time to settle in and do it next year.

He looks like it but give him some time to settle in and get familiar with the expectation of high level in every game.

Probably accurate that too. Way he was strolling about the pitch, he might have smoked a fat one before the match.

Look at the goal again and you will see the concentration VVD has on the ball, no distraction of Matip or any blue c**t, just eye on the ball with one intention...

Yep and it's so refreshing to see someone who isn't scared of a challenge.

He looks like he wants to win every high ball in his area. I can't remember the last time someone won that many headers in a match.

I think if you stick any of our other defenders in where he was yesterday 50% of them high balls are won by Everton in and around our box causing all sorts of trouble.

Can't wait till next season when we've got him winning those long punts and Keita picking up second balls and starting attacks.

I think we're in for a much more consistent season, we're slowly building a formidable team and it's exciting to see it unfold.

To move to the next level - we needed THIS guy more than we’ll miss Phil.

We lose goals through cb errors and we win games without Phil. These are just facts.

Not a get out of jail for FSG - the money for Phil MUST be reinvested but I’m not bereft yet.......

I do believe Virgil only arrived because Coutinho was heading out the door.

100% but I think we’re net better in playing terms overall.

I said in the summer mate that Cou was funding Naby and VvD.

Got quite a bit of ire on here for it and again when I said he’d be gone Jan.

Views on FSG not changed but we need to go forward.

      No alternative.

We gained an awful lot in defence but didn’t lose as much in attack.

Him meaning one less of either Lovren, Klavan, or even Matip this year, taking the field is what gives me added confidence.
