I love this guy... steal at £70 million.,

An absolute bargain. Daylight robbery even.

Never seen a defender of this quality in a red shirt. Special.

This man is by far the best CB in the Prem.

He literally elevates the level of every other center-back he plays with.

Remember Lovren before VVD? Looked bad most of the time and was getting crushed week in week out by the fans and media. VVD comes in and by the end of last season I was praying Lovren stays fit because I thought we had found the correct pair.

      Then

Lovren is injured at WC and Gomez starts the season and I'm like meh! To young, only managed to get in and out of the squad, is he a proper CB or a RB? Couple of months later and the VVD effect magic worked so good that we managed to to have the most clean sheets in the PL whole conceding the least amount of goals. He elevated Gomez's level so much that he went from being a player in and out of the squad to a player we felt we can't do without.

      Then....!

Gomez gets injured and we're like f***! Matip is bad memories of the times he was playing alongside Lovren. But what do you know? 3 games into it and guess what?  Not only does Matip looks like he's been playing from the start of the season, but he also looks about 3 times better than last season.

That cold blooded attitude, that commanding presence, the way he sets up his back line and communicates with everybody around him and that absolute domination in the air! He is the true flying Dutchman!

VVD is worth every single penny and then some more! I'm glad Klopp waited for him. This is a prime example of spending big the right way.

Anyone noticed that VVD rarely gets carded?

last season just 1 yellow card.

This season so far just 1 too.

a testament to his positional ability and his defensive prowess.

I hope I'm not jinxing him now!!!

He got a yellow card in the first 15 minutes of the game.   I thought this was going to put pressure on him.  Not VVD he just bossed the defence and had their attackers within his grasp - Best defender in the world!

Gutted he will miss that 1st leg. Still can't understand Mark Scwarzer in his HT match analysis, saying that VVD should have got a straight RED. F**k off you Aussie c**t.  :D

Yep, I thought that after seeing the first replay tbh. Had someone did that to one of ours, I am sure we'd all be crying out for a red.

Genuine question what is he supposed to do then , because he did in fact cleanly take the ball , is he supposed to let him go ?

Yeah,  but the follow through with studs showing and connecting :(  Maybe on another day his studs wouldn't be showing, maybe he would have slid in using his right leg instead, or maybe he wouldn't have slid in and just chased him down.

No complaints about the yellow. Nothing malicious by Virgil, just his momentum took him through, but it was a bit dangerous. One of the few decisions the ref got right.

Not sure what Carlo Ancelotti think about Gattuso.

Sure VvD never that kind of player intent to break anyone's leg. But I agreed it 's dangerous and the yellow was right.

      The guys a monster.

As an aside Henderson if picked better concentrate on that aspect of the game as there will be a fair few aerial bombs on Sunday.

I think it might be a good idea to play Fabinho in midfield in case of Fellaini.

He's F***ing impressive to watch, I think even a totally clueless person would notice he's a level above the rest when watching LFC. My wife for example doesn't watch much football, but loves watching football live in the stadium, and when we watched LFC batter Porto in the Champions League last season, I remember she asking me "who's this new guy in the back? He looks like he's the boss of the rest of the defense". Haha. And yeah he does. I don't really care that much about captain armbands - it's just a piece of plastic - I care about leadership, and VVD is a natural leader... but in any case, I do think he'll become our captain eventually.
