If you don't see that VvD has exceptional pace for a centre back then you're crazy. I can't find the clip but against Arsenal Aubaumayang (granted with the ball) could not run away from him and ended up being caught.

The 'player speed' charts have been proven to be bogus for what might be a decade now, so using those has no bearing really. The only centre back in the league with more pace than him may well be Joe Gomez.

Your stance is indefensible. Also, you don't keep up with Traore, known for pace and pace alone without being very fast yourself.

Sorry mate, did you an injustice by not reading this properly...
I was not saying that VVD did not have  exceptional pace for a centre back, I was trying to point out that Gnabry, a very quick attacking player proved to be a handful for Robertson, so imo; it was of little wonder why VVD found life hard to handle him and that we should not hold that against him and what he brings to the back four at LFC...

If you are going to put Videos up in defense of VVD first look at the angle of the run Traore make (First stride are toward the touch line before straightening up), secondly VVD starts his run ahead of Traore by at least 8-12 meters and as I stated earlier speed (How quick you can hit your fastest) vs Pace (How long you can maintain that speed) can see a runner come out of the blocks behind but by the end of the race see him a head and going away....

      No.

Pace is an average of acceleration and top speed of which VvD comes out superbly in

Ok that seems fair. Robbo is quicker than Virgil I’d say

At risk of causing more uproar, and I know that you have stated already that "The 'player speed' charts have been proven to be bogus for what might be a decade now,"

      Take a look at this....

What I feel it does not take into account is that you really see Mane, Salah, or Firmino in a straight flat out foot race for the ball; that is from the half way line to the goal line. more often they are having to bend their runs

These stats just go to show that the speed charts are flawed.

The only way to know who’s the fastest is to have a sprint race which will never happen

Even a sprint race wouldn't be realistic.
Players a bit under the weather, carrying a niggle etc etc
Then we have pitch conditions, where the flanks might be a big boggier than the middle.
      There's a load of variables.

Bottom line here; VVD is quick, both off the mark and over distance.

Hansen and Lawrenson were never speedy over ground but between the ears like Virgil they have a yard start because they read the game better.Looking forward to seeing him inflict pain on Kane

True leadership there, no dig to the Captain and vice captain here, but many other players could have made a big deal about the knock he got, not our colossus.

Had Kane in his pocket today and was a beast in the air as always.

Oh and that defending for the Sissoko counter, just wow.

Who is our vice captain? I always thought it was VVD anyway?

Just seeing the guy makes you feel more at ease. Unbelievable presence he has.

To my understanding Milly was the vice captain, unless it has changed in recent weeks?

Not only is he technically brilliant. The intelligence he shown there,

      1. To not dive in as we see so many CBs do in that situation and risk getting a red.

      2. To know that it’s Sissokho advancing with the ball and to cut off the pass to Son who he knows is far better at shooting.

To process these things in a split second in such a pressured situation is unreal; the man continues to impress. Pure class!

Can you imagine being an attacking player and seeing VVD as the last man between you and the goal, you might as well just pass it to him and save yourself the trouble and embarrassment.

F***ing awesome, Harry Claim in his pocket all game, can't remember him having a touch and then that mental awareness to block Sissoko getting the through ball to Son for a tap in, was immense.

It’s brilliant watching that again. Prevents the pass and then at the last second commits to Sissoko when it’s clear he’s going to take the shot to put him under pressure.

Guy is brilliant and we are looking at our best CB of the PL era here in my opinion (although Sami remains my favorite).
