Possibly the greatest signing the club has ever made.

There are no equals to him in that centre back position. Not even close.

#If Shankly thought Big Ron Yeats was a colossus what would he have made of Virgil . Hendo has lifted a Trophy this week I want to see Virgil lift one on Sunday to make it a great week for Liverpool players

The honours system here gives "CBE" or "MBE" etc I think all our lads should be honoured and have the "CLW" after their names  Champions League Winner. Still buzzing

Read the comments, how can anyone doubt this man? He is one of the best players in the world and that’s an absolute fact.

Messi scored a shed load of goals but La Liga was sh*te last season.

VVD should win it for me.

“Aerial balls are funny, because the ball comes and we just hear him shouting ‘VIRGIL!’. And you can let it pass, whoever the attacker is.

“Against Manchester [United], he impressed me. Because we were going to play against [Romelu] Lukaku. I thought ‘hey Lukaku has his size, let’s see if he will hold up’.

“My god. Every air ball, it was ‘VIRGIL’, he would run over. You hear ‘VIRGIL’, you get out of the way, because he will come running over.”

This is brilliant stuff. I was reading this article and this part really had me laughing.

I'm so glad we have this guy in our team. What an absolute beast!

Haha also read that somewhere earlier, though I think it mentioned that he shouts "Virg" instead of "Virgil". Either day I might adopt that next time I play football :D

After last season I’m close to shouting Virgil at anyone I speak to.

Is it still a topic of discussion whether Hendo should hand over the captain's armband to this guy?

I loved Hendo for what he did this season, but can't help feel VVD is just long term captain material...

      I reckon Jürgen knows best.
He speaks so glowingly of Henderson's Captain's role, and how importnt he is.

VVD is a leader as well, in a different way, as is Allison, Robertson, Firmino, Milner etc

Just take a look at the Celebration when Hendo brings the Cup on to the Podium this lad is clearly very well respected by his colleagues and team mates. We have a lot of leaders on the pitch and one thing Jürgen believes in is loyalty I doubt we will see a change in the Captain for sometime

If he stays fit and healthy, and playing at the same level, he'll be captain for a few years yet.

The podium thing had me welling up a bit to be honest.
The raw emotion on the faces of our players had me going.

When you saw Moreno looking every bit a part of the winning team it said it all for me. He hardly played but his sheer delight for his team mates and the club and himself was evident. Also Dejan nearly ripped the shirt of Hendo it was a beautiful moment and a clear indication that we have a group of lads that are prepared to give everything for each other.

Yea fair enough, a team gunning for the league needs a few "captains" on the field, and Hendo's leadership mentality really impressed me this season. He loves the club. My only concern would be that Hendo is no longer an automatic starter and a captain for me should be one of the first names on the sheet.

Maybe the game is changing, maybe you no longer need your captain every game if Milner, VVD or Allison can captain the game when Hendo doesn't start...might be a good thing.
