First let me state that Prickford's tackle was rude and dumb (but so was what Mané did early against Arsenal, it happens). But VVD is at fault here mainly. If you play soccer you learn pretty soon to not put your legs down on the pitch when someone tackles precisely because what happened to VVD. Normally Pickford just tackles VVD and in the moment of the tackle VVD loosens his legs from the ground a bit, so he gets smashed but nothing serious happens. Trust me: anybody with some serious skills and training knows it. No idea why VVD stood like a statue there..., probably just an instance of sh*t happens.

VVD could walk, so that's a sign it isn't a real blow because in the season-ending cases of ACL the guys are on stretchers. I'd think 3-6 months. Could be back for CL KO stages. I hope Thiago is alright, no bad rumours about him and I hope that's a good sign.

I respectfully disagree, he lunged in the air with both of his legs at VVD legs. Horrible tackle, red worthy. I don’t wish anything bad on Prickford, cause he’s a terrible goalie and he plays for Everton, that’s hell on earth.

You're actually saying it's VVD's fault he was injured so badly for not loosening his legs??

If it’s truly ACL you’re not just looking at a long road back to recovery but also given his age would probably also mean we have seen the best days of him.

Fingers crossed its not his cruciate.
Either way though he'll be out for a while.
Could do with Alisson making a miraculous recovery.
Not good to be without both of them.
All the best Virg, get well soon!

I understand Pickford’s decision to rush out, but he has to keep his legs lower; they were far too high. The referee/the VAR official choked. If we lose our best defender due to a terrible challenge, they should lose their goalkeeper and should go down a man. The more I see it the worse it is. Pickford should be given a retrospective 3 game ban, but it’s not going to keep me up at night if he doesn’t get a ban. I’m just very worried about VVD.

Well there’s not much we can do now. Let’s see what happens.

We should focus on Ajax and sheff Utd now.

Matip and Gomez are both champions league and premier league champions so if that’s all we have until January then that’ll do me.
We have seen djimi Traore win a champions league medal and so many times we saw united win the league with defenders like John o shea so there’s no reason we should throw in the towel.

      Onwards and upwards...

Dreading opening this player thread and in general any of my usual media sources. I just know it’s going to say big man out for a looong time, small glimmer of hope is fading.

Worried about this myself. Of course every obscure Twitter user will be coming out saying ‘ACL, out for 12 years’. We just need to wait on official word and hope for the best.

Been sent to a knee specialist so that tells me the damage is severe :-(  .... that pr*ckford wants banning for 6 games for that.

But that might make them a better team.

We’d have already known if would have been good news.

Afraid it’s not going to be. I fear the only question is going to be is it a season ended or is it a year long recovery (meaning missing the start of next year as well).

Maybe they're just waiting to see what the specialist says before announcing anything.
Like maybe they think it's not too bad, and just want to confirm.

Correct. You don't seek specialist if your team doctors look at the results and see it's minor. You go see a specialist to see how fu**ed you are. Probably going to confirm if it's partial or complete ACL tear.

Wasn't ACL one of the injuries Gomez had? Forget which level it was (partial of complete)

      Not necessarily

Dont get me wrong, I think it's bad news but you have to wait for the swelling to go down somewhat before you can generally tell

You normally don’t see a specialist unless it’s not good news initially unfortunately.

I was playing basketball as a 25 year old. I hyper extended my knee and felt a grindy pop. It didn't hurt, but felt wierd. I sat down for a few, then got up and played ball for an hour. My knee stole that day. I iced it that day and everyday for a month, but never hurt and didn't really bother me day to day so I kept playing ball.

After it stated swollen for a month I went to see a specialist and thought I would get the knee drained or something. The Dr. came in, felt my knee and in two minutes said my acl was torn. I payed $400 for a MRI and it showed tears in my milk and pcl, not the acl.

I went from good and no pain to surgery and 7 month rehab and recovery. When I saw VVD yesterday I thought "F**k, thats dobe knee". I hate it

Initially I thought: Ok, he can walk off the pitch on his own...it's nothing season-ending. But after reading the last post I am concerned again.
