We are gonna have a lot of money when we sell Coutinho....use it on a proper world class keeper.

When was the last time we had a truly great keeper?  Reina was good, but not great IMO.  Look at Utd, City, Chelsea & Arsenal the past 25 years and they've all had keepers better than any we've had for 30+ years.  Time to spend big on a class act.  Makes such a difference to the confidence of the team and defence in particular.

With you 100% +.  If we really  want to win the league  it's  time to  get  world class  goalkeeper.

Struggling to see how Reina could have been much better in his peak years at this club.

I love Pepe.....but I donā€™t think he was quite in the Clemence or even Grobbelaar class.

It may be a generation thing.

I'm not quite old enough for Clem, Bruce was my childhood (I go back to 85/86 as a red) but that wasn't really what me or Frankly were getting at.

Skamp was saying he didn't think Pepe  was world class.

I and I think Frankly did, in his prime

Ah ok - I saw it more as a ā€œjust short of top endā€ which for me he was in that company........

But, hey, only by a smidgeon hence why I say it could be a generational thing.

I thought for a 3 to 4 year period, in the modern game he was in that top % in the world. He was a great shot stopper, his distribution was fantastic, he was a leader, he came for the ball in and around his box.

If anything Bruce was ahead of his time, he would have suited the modern game as well as being one of the best in his era

As I said Clem a bit too early for me.

      I've watched
      Bruce
      David James
      Brad Friedel
      Sander Westerveld
      Jerzy Dudek
      Chris Kirkland
      Pepe Reina
      Brad Jones
      Simon Mignolet
      Loris Karius

Only Bruce and Pepe were ultimately any good for me

Most definitely top 2 in that list mate ;)

      Kirkland a lost talent - I think he couldā€™ve been a cracker.

Signed on the exact day as Dudek didn't he? I'm surprised he went for that

Ultimately back injuries did for him

David James was really good. Conceded 179 and 478 saves. 10 mistakes in his whole career. Mignolet can only dream of being that good.

Mignolet already conceded 311 goals and made 18 errors. He's not even retired yet. Not sure what my age has to do with official stats from premier league site.

David James was not too bad, he just annoyed me with punching instead of catching.

Just wondered if you were old enough to have watched him week in week out rather than go off stats is all lad.
But be difficult if you like 👍

He was decent but not very good imo. I was 13 I think when he signed.

Very gaff prone but also could be spectacular.

Overall.....not much in it it at all. Neither anywhere near good enough for this club.

What was is it, 11/12 consecutive clean sheet for us at one point?

Just look at his placing on the table in the link below. 135 clean sheets in 285 league appearances at an average of 0.47, joint highest with Petr Cech.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Premier_League_goalkeepers_with_100_or_more_clean_sheets

Showed what a serious upgrade in goal could do to our defence when he replaced Dudek from 2005/2006. 41 goals conceded in 2004/05 to just 25 goals in 05/06 and with the exact same defence. One wonders what we could do with a similar upgrade.

As for David James - a decent keeper...after he left Liverpool. His latter years with Portsmouth were probably his best years.

Had a fair few mistakes in him. Remember one against Bolton that was a shocker.

But a prime c**t  by all accounts is why he was binned off
