Interesting thing is Klopp has selected Matip to play alongside VVD. Is this just a one off or has Klopp made a decision. Long term I like the Gomez/VVD partnership. I want TAA at left back. Non a big fan of Lovren and Klavan is not really a candidate.

But great to see VVD and as long as Matip is on his game we look stronger in the air.

No complaints about the front 6. Hope Mane isn't knackered after his long flight.

Think Lovren and Klavan both played the most minutes of the entire squad during the festive period, they're just being rested I think. We'll likely see one of them play against City. Would be quite the statement from Klopp if Van Dijk starts straight away against City too.

Do you reckon it's solely down to that? I've thought it over and worried his injury took that zip out of his game and it's bothering him but he seems to have a bit of an attitude. With him on his game like he was last season it'd give us that extra cutting edge we need in the CL.

I would expect it actually. He clearly feels he's fit enough for football, and by then he will have trained several times.

Yes probably a bit early for Klopp to decide who partners VVD long term. I'd rather he made a decision sooner rather than later as we need a good understanding in central defense.
