Some of my earliest memories of Anfield was watching the flying pig pull off some seemingly impossible manoeuvres for a man of his size.

Our first ever FA Cup winning goalkeeper and must have been one of the most central figures during Shankly's reign at Liverpool.

He must have had some career at Liverpool, witnessing the arrival of Shankly and seeing us go from Second Division also rans to the top of the pile.

RIP Tommy - I bet he would have been a lot more interesting ex-red to chat to than some of the ex-pros we listen to week in week out.

      Very sad day.

It's always sad to hear of the passing of players from that period in history and even tougher when they made it with their club. Always loved reading and seeing clips of Liverpool from that era but no one can tell it better than the supporters and the players from that special era for the club (and British football in general). By all accounts an icon from the golden age and most importantly a total gentleman.

      Rest in peace Tommy Lawrence.

I had the utmost pleasure to see Tommy play. As a young fan he always had a word as he left Anfield and I treasure the team photo he signed for me and my friends when we went at half term to watch them train, then bussed it back to a Anfield to wait for them to come out after lunch.
RIP Tommy, they don’ t make them like you anymore, a lovely humble man and a great servant to this Club. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. Sleep well Tommy, night, night.

I'm not usually one to get emotional, but that little video admittedly, strangely enough, brought tears to my eyes.

If ever there would be the chance to travel back in time, going to that era and watching that Liverpool team play and the Kop in full motion would be at the top of my list.

      RIP Tommy Lawrence, YWNA.

Paid my respects earlier in the post but still very sad when I think about Tommy. I was on the Kop umpteen times and he used to wink to the Kop when he collected the ball behind the goal. He was great at covering for Smith and Ron Yeats. He was deceptively quick off his line and he was strong in the air. He kept Clem in the reserves for well over a season if I remember rightly.

" flying pig" was a bit harsh. Probably the jumper he wore in goal, when it was pissing down his goalies jumper weighed a ton, probably weighing in at over 14st had something to do with it. Great on the angles as well. Strong lad, stocky but agile as well. Fitting tribute today.

      Sad loss..RIP Tommy Lawrence.

That's a fact Skip, in the lfc tv documentary about that first FA cup win you can still see the sparkle in those players eyes and the pride in their voices, in particular Tommy when he mentions "when you look straight down you couldn't see a thing",
its as if it were yesterday and you feel it was too by the emotion in his voice,
Brilliant it is, love hearing all the ex players stories, our history.

Just come back from attending Tommy's funeral in Warrington. Great turnout, with the church crammed with family, friends, and Liverpool players and fans. Great to see and talk to some of my heroes from the great sixties team, Ray Clemence, Kevin Keegan, God, Gary McAlister,(Had my photo taken with each of these two pairs.) Ian St John, Ian Callaghan, Sir Roger Hunt, Chris Lawler, Phil Neal, Phil Boersma, and best of all Big Ron Yeats. Sadly Ron look like he isn't too aware of what is going on around him, but he will always be a giant to me. Great speech by the Liverpool F.C. chaplain, telling stories about Tommy and his colleague Roger Hunt when they used to travel to Anfield together from Warrington. Very moving when they played "You'll never walk alone" at the end of the service. Somehow meant more singing it for Tommy than it did on the Kop. I'm sure Tommy would've been absolutely chuffed.

R.I.P Tommy. A great player and a true gentleman.
