I Really really really hope we don't sign alisson. Since we've been linked with him i've tried to watch as much as possible and I can't see what the hype is all about.

Distribution is worse than Karius, Shot Stopping is worse than Karius, I do not think he is an improvement.
No idea why Ederson isn't starting for Brazil.

Agreed I see nothing special about him.

He would be an upgrade on Karius no doubt but not so much he's worth paying  £79 million for or whatever ridiculous fee Roma want.

In fact I would argue Nick Pope is every bit as good.

I believe he is right now better thank Karius, but like bazspeedman said, not that big of a difference to pay what Roma is asking for. I agree that Ederson looks the better keeper.

I'd agree with this, if we are to spend that kind of money then we need one of the best in the world, a real game changer like De Gea, Neuer etc not just a slight improvement.

Interesting article from the Liverpool Echo.

Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool's goalkeeper hunt and the need to break habit of a lifetime,
Jürgen Klopp does not usually buy goalkeepers

It might be one of the hardest quiz questions in football, one even the biggest statto would struggle to solve.

Daniel Ischdonat. Lukas Kruse. Mitchell Langerak. Loris Karius. Alex Manninger.

What do these five players – three German, one Austrian, one Australian – have in common?

And, for bonus points, how much did these five goalkeepers cost when Jürgen Klopp signed them?

In a managerial career which has spanned 17 years, the Liverpool boss has acquired just five new goalkeepers, with just Karius and Langerak needing any sort of money to seal.

That amount totals to no more than £5million.

Indeed, when Klopp brought Karius to Anfield in the summer of 2016 from former club Mainz, it represented the first time his club had bought a goalkeeper for a seven-figure sum.

Ischdonat, Kruse and Manninger were all frees, and all brought in to bolster the squad. Langerak was a teenager from Melbourne when he moved to the Bundesliga.

Even when Karius arrived, he did so as competition to Simon Mignolet, rather than a definitive first-choice. He also cost less than he should, with the Reds taking advantage of a clause in his contract which sealed the £4.2million deal.

This all leads to one crucial conclusion: buying goalkeepers for a large sum is something Klopp has never done before.

In truth, he hasn't needed to. At Mainz, Dimo Wache was his established no.1, with the German making 406 appearances for the club during his career. At Borussia Dortmund, Roman Weidenfeller was the established goalkeeper, with Langerak only make 10 league appearances under Klopp during his time at Westfalenstadion.

But he needs to now. Simon Mignolet is likely to move on after being demoted to second choice, while a decision must be made on Danny Ward, after making just one appearance last season.

And though there is less doubt surrounding the future of Karius – the club will stick with the 24-year-old after his Champions League nightmare – there is an obvious need to revamp their goalkeeping options, whether that is to usurp Karius, or provide him with further competition.

That man could have been Alisson. The Brazilian has been watched by the Reds, but has also seemingly made it clear he would sooner swap Roma for Real Madrid this summer. No bid has been forthcoming, with the club taking the rare step of letting the player's representatives not to expect one this summer, too.

A price of around £60million for Alisson has been mooted, which is almost double the world record fee for a goalkeeper after Manchester City spent £34.7million on Ederson last summer. Jan Oblak, with an £88million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract, would be almost a 200% mark-up.

It means spending huge on strengthening that position would be unprecedented on two counts, both taking Klopp's history into account, and the general market value of goalkeepers.

Granted, the German boss has changed his methods in the transfer market to a degree, spending sums of money he hadn't previously at Dortmund.

He also broke the world record transfer fee for a defender, bringing Virgil van Dijk to Anfield for £75million.

But the leap from Van Dijk to its previous holder, Kyle Walker, stood at £21million in a position which has gained increased importance. Of the top 50 transfers in world football – not accounting for inflation – seven are defenders, and just two goalkeepers.

His sides do not spend big, or often, on goalkeepers. But in a career which has experienced almost everything, Klopp prepares a rare journey into the unknown.

Just how far removed from the norm remains to be seen.

Just need him to have a terrible world cup!  Or at least not be brilliant to push the price up further.

Go English and get Pope 20M would be far better value than Allison. There is only two keepers would pay over odds for one plays for the scum and the over is Oblak. Invest the difference in a class Midfielder's or another attacker still short in that area

How much did Everton pay for Pickford? he was 2016-2017's darling the way Pope was 207-2018's.

Watched him against Shakhtar in the CL and thought he was the real deal but since then he’s been so underwhelming. Shaky again tonight.

Again I’m not impressed by him. Think it was Ian Wright at half time, was saying Serbia need to keep firing in the crosses because there’s a mistake waiting to happen from Alisson, seemed scared to catch the ball.

Roma should have made the deal before the WC, to either Real, us or any other team, tricky deal to wait after the WC, I mean they were asking an absurd amount of money for a keeper so there was little change of the price going up.

From the games I've seen him play can't see why all the fuss, he certainly looks like an average keeper, Ederson looks the better keeper.

Yep Brazil kind of remind me of the old England before Southgate.

Just keeping players on by name not merit. Like yesterday I'd have deffo taken Neymar off but I think he was kept on just because of who he is.

Not saying Alisson is a big name but it wouldn't have hurt to play Ederson.

Also the Jesus/Bobby situation. I think they'd have got more from the 11 on the pitch if they started Bobby.

In fact the few games he come on he changed the game for the better in my opinion.

If you're going to force play through Neymar, you'd think Bobby would be the perfect partner to open space for him.

Shame they're out but Bobby can come home safely now.
