Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur: In game and Post Match discussion

We've got a huge game in store here at Anfield this afternoon, with Tottenham Hotspur visiting.

      Line-up:

      Pre-match stats

Jürgen Klopp could register his 50th league win in charge of the Reds this afternoon, in what will be his 94th top-flight game at the helm. Only three managers in the club's history have reached that milestone in fewer fixtures: Kenny Dalglish (85 matches), Bill Shankly (90, all in the Second Division) and Rafa Benitez (93).

This will be the 150th league meeting between the sides - Liverpool have won 69 of the previous 149, Tottenham 42.

Liverpool have scored 86 Premier League goals against Tottenham - a tally only bettered by the 89 they have netted against Newcastle.

The Reds have lost just one of the last 23 Anfield top-flight clashes with Spurs.

In the last 11 meetings home and away, Liverpool have failed to score only once - in Klopp's first game in charge in October 2015 when the teams drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane.

Liverpool: Karius, Trent-Alexander, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Henderson, Can, Milner, Mane, Salah, Firmino

Substitutes: Mignolet, Matip, Moreno, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ings, Solanke

Tottenham: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.

Substitutes: Vorm, Aurier, Wanyama, Llorente, Winks, Sissoko, Lamela

      Jürgen's went with Dejan.

Interesting call and big game for Lovren.

Me neither. I'd have went Gini for this one.

Wow, no Wijnaldum at home who is usually monstersaurus....  And TAA over Gomez?  Liking the VVD and Lovren partnership, Lovren always seems to do well on the right side instead of left.

Surprised that one of Gini or Ox didn't make it back into the side. Both seem made for this one.

Big game for Lovren as well, chance for him to make himself first choice with Van Dijk.

Probably see the ox on for Milner at some point , his pace late on could be key

Would have went for Ox or Gini in midfield over Milly.

This will be an intense high tempo game I'm not sure Milner will cope with the pace.

Hmm, slightly disappointed if I'm honest, had a sneaky feeling Henderson would start but Milner in too is surprising, having despatched City so readily i thought Jürgen would go with the same 3, oh well, just hope they are all on their game today cos they really need to be,

Still confident of a Reds win.

Surprised Milner is in because I don't think he's been great, but can understand the logic in him ahead of Wijnaldum because I think he wants somebody prepared to sit in there.  I suppose the theory is Milner is less likely to go walkabouts than Gini.

We all know how today's going to work.  It's a simple equation as to whether our front three have their goalscoring boots on or not.

Come on Jürgen - lets have your half century here.

So, it'll be TAA and Lovren in the back 4. TAA only In cause Gomez out. And bit surprised to see Dejan, when last time out he seemed to fall to pieces at the 'idea' of playing against Kane. He needs to stay f**king calm, not let the occasion get to him, not make rash decisions, and not give Kane too much respect.

Maybe Milner is in to provide a bit more cover for TAA? Otherwise, not sure why Gini would not be on instead.  AOC would be more attacking option, but can understand why - with the defense - we're being a bit more cautious.

Thank God we have the 3 lads fit and staring up front. Always have a chance with them lads starting.

And good to see VVD start, big game for him, these are the days we paid 75mill for.

Decent options off the bench too.

Can't wait. Big test. These guys are in form. But we've proved we can raise it against the better sides.

      CMON BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mily and Hendo playing together in the MF against a high pace attacking team? Klopp playing for a draw IMO. The pace of Gini or Ox is what we need in these high line attack style games. I hope he’s right in leaving the pacy lads out.

      (My opinion means nothing BTW)

Think in terms of midfield selection, Klopp decided to battle power with power. Dier and Dembele against Can, Henderson and Milner. Late on in the game we can then use Chamberlain and Wijnaldum against their tired legs.

City's midfield is something completely different, they have pace, vision, good passing, so that's what we needed too in Wijnaldum and Chamberlain.

      Hopefully it works out.

Matip has been a weak link recently so I understand Klopp going with the Southampton pair. Ox being dropped for Henderson is a travesty though. Just because he's captain he walks straight back into the side. Ox is a far more intelligent and agile midfielder.

Wondering if he is going to have Milner involved in man-marking someone, surprised he is in.

Surprised about Dej as well, but trusting in the manager and the players.  Let's set the record straight with Spurs. We are the better side.

Maybe he picked Lovren because he's not as weak? I'm not sure.

I'm hoping Mane is on today.
