      Pre-Match: Liverpool V West Ham (24/02/18 - 3pm)
      Feb 19, 2018 09:24:12 am

A full ten days preparation for this one since Porto so no excuses. United host Chelsea a day later so more points guaranteed to be dropped from our top four rivals.

I would like to see Ox return to the first eleven. They will sit in and Ox acn offer more than say Milner or Gini going forward in this type of game. I still don't see Lallana getting a start.

      2-0 Reds.  :kop5cf8koxp6: :kop5cf8koxp6:

Pivotal game, we get to play before those around us and a win will see us overtake manure in to the dizzy heights of second, and the bonus is they play chelski so win win situation as long as we get the 3 points

Arsenal play City too, so a city win could take Arsenal out of the picture completely. Spurs have a London derby against Palace, you never know with Palace, so a it great be a great weekend for us.

Didn't realise the LC final was this weekend.  The league game between then is next Thursday.

Why drop Trent and Lovren who are playing well.

46 goals conceded so far in the league, only 3 teams have conceded more, so I say again, not an overly defensive team :-)

Moyes and Everton are the same, they would lose on purpose to teams around us. We all know Moyes will have his team lose on purpose just so Arsenal can keep up with us and potentially knock us out of CL spot. I'd put my life savings on Spurs to win easily.

Edit: oh sh*t, It's Hodgson at Palace, I got mixed up!

Gini was very good vs. Porto. Not sure why he would be dropped if he's fit. Would be hard to drop Milner as well, for the same reason.

I do expect Can to come in for Henderson.

Not always confident after a long rest. Sometimes the momentum and rhythm gets disrupted. With Moyes, I think were gonna see a huge bus parked in front of his box. Not his usual style i know, but hell be doing what he can to grab a point, and attacking outright it won't be.
He'll wanna frustrate us and try get something on the counter with long balls bombed into our box.
Think the side we started against Porto, with perhaps Hendo being changed for Ox, should be enough to get us a win. Need that early goal again, to force them to open up a bit. Must win game to heap the pressure on those around us, and who knows? After tonights result, City may just capitulate and go into freefall. Wouldn't be the first time its happened. I'm going for a 3-0 win, so don't start like you're still running in sand on the beach lads, lets blast these lot from the off.

Need to keep an eye on Arnautović and Lanzini.

Antonio always seems to have a good game against us too.

Just don’t take anything for granted and get stuck in early and we should be fine.

Won't be an easy nut to crack. They will gang up in front of their keeper. Won't be able to run thru them at will. It will be a war of attrition. Keep battering away to wear them down.

I noticed last couple of seasons, Sky and BT have been showing the lesser teams more often. On Saturday, we are the only big team to play, yet they are showing the Leicester vs Stoke and Watford vs Everton matches... makes sense.

Winning this game will put down a real marker to the other teams. I know it's 'only' West Ham at home, but it sends us ahead of each one of our rivals and puts pressure on the rest.

A win puts us ahead of United who will have to revert from type and come out and attack Chelsea to make sure they get the win to go back into 2nd, even after playing away midweek. They will know they have to win as they will have seen us beat West Ham the day before. This in turn also helps us as Chelsea pick up 0 points.

A win puts keeps us ahead of Chelsea. They will know they have to win as they will have seen us beat West Ham the day before. They have to go to Old Trafford, after playing Barca midweek and get a win to make up the deficit that we created a day earlier.

A win puts keeps us ahead of Spurs. They will know they have to win as they will have seen us beat West Ham 2 days before and have to make up the ground again. They have a London derby, albeit against Palace, but Palace are capable of getting shock results now and again. They have the pressure thought of knowing that they have to win to keep pace with Liverpool, and also the 2 teams that played on Sunday also.

This could be a season defining weekend. It's up to the players to go out there and win it. Win it knowing that West Ham will come to play for a point like Everton, West Brom et all have done. We have to be at our attacking best Saturday. Anything other than a win is a disaster.

Hyperbole like that last sentence undermines an otherwise thoroughly sensible post.

You’re confusing how much much you WANT a win with the impact. IF we don’t win it will be a setback, even a missed opportunity, but it wouldn’t be a disaster.

Our form is as good as City’s in the last couple of months and clear if the rest so we are in good shape to press on regardless.

I’m very confident we will win by the way :)

My biggest concern is our "focus" after the 10 day break.  We typically struggle when coming back from international breaks.  Hopefully Jürgen has the lads in the right mindset and raring to go from the opening kickoff.

I'd be very VERY wary of this game - not in results terms but in what Moyes has directed his previous sides to play like at Anfield in the past. Dirty, potentially career ending fouls galore have come from his teams at Anfield. Indeed, the last time he came to Anfield with Sunderland one of his players (Ibrahim Ndong) recklessly going in on Coutinho which saw Phil stretchered off.

The man's a c**t and he'll tell his teams to go out and hurt us. Don't be surprised to see Salah, Firmino and Mane on the end of some pretty atrocious challenges.

We will win this one I think. I get what you mean about player concern.

My biggest concern is our "focus" after the 10 day break.  We typically struggle when coming back from international breaks.  Hopefully Jürgen has the lads in the right mindset and raring to go from the opening kickoff.

This is my real concern too. I don't want to go into the match thinking we have won it (as it seems most of you seem to think). We could end up with Swansea type result.

My other concern is that we are *not* used to playing at 3pm on Staturdays. Will the guys be ready for it.

I am going for 2-1 to redmen.

It is not a valid concern, West Ham had an even longer break. There has been no international break either.

Not a valid concern, we do better at 3pm than any other kick off time statistically.

West Ham are an ok'ish team at the moment but we should be more than capable of beating them at home. They aren't overly defensive, I think, and that should allow us to attack them.
whilst I agree with the notion they aren't usually overly defensive, most teams comes to anfield and park the bus. If they were playing another team that is lower they would probably not do that, but teams come to anfield and play for a draw.

Need to keep an eye on Arnautović and Lanzini.

Yea, Marko has had a new lease of life further forward. Looks dangerous for a change, WH missed him when he was injured recently.

West Ham don't really know who they are. They are likely to outwit themselves. A typical Moyes team...neither one thing nor t'other.

It remains a mystery as to why the old soak nominated him as his successor at Mancheater United. Moyes has probably found his level and if this goes tits up his credibility as a Premier league manager will be rock bottom.

Will he put one on over us, doubt it but strange things do happen in this game. Got a few decent players- Noble, Lanzini, one or two others.

      3-1...something like that..

Well if he goes anywhere near Salah or Mane he's in for a proper torrent of abuse from the Anfield faithful.
Bobby will just butt him and hurl another load of Brazilian abuse at him and he'll probably run off crying to FA again.

Let's get the 3 points and lock it up in the safe and sees what happen to the other results. We need to do our job first and worry about others later. Lets remain fully focused and get the 3 points. This could be the turning point of the season. Knowing how screwed up is the FA, let's brace ourselves with some shocking and bizarre referee decisions as in a West ham player tripping himelf inside our box with none of our players nearby and awardedt a penalty or an opposition player jumping high to head a ball and fell to the ground and got a penalty with none of our players nearby. Yes, sounds stupid but with the quality of the FA, they are more than capable of such bias and bizarre decisions. That's what I fear most before anything else.

So I did a bit of quick research on our results under Klopp after breaks away mid-season.

Tenerife March 2016                          La Manga February 2017
Liverpool 1-1 Spurs                            Leicester 3-1 Liverpool
Liverpool 4-1 Stoke                            Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal
      B'Mouth 1-2 Liverpool                         Liverpool 2-1 Burnley
Liverpool 4-0 Everton                         Man City 1-1 Liverpool

So no wins in the first game after both extended breaks in the last two years but unbeaten and some good wins in the following games.

Hopefully Saturday there are no cobwebs!

It's f**king cruel to make people wait over a week for the next game after you win 5-0.

Plumped for a narrow reds win.  Not a fan of these little 'training camps' the players go on.  Think it takes a little bit of pressure and focus away for them at the expense of probably keeping them fresher for the final few months.

I expect a small benefit in the coming months, just probably not today.

West Ham obviously not as bad as when we played them earlier this season but cannot picture Moyes grinning at the end so still backing us for three points.
