One of the key moments us fans have been waiting for is here! And well done to all of us!

It’s unusually early to be starting a match thread, but since the buzz is already well under way, we may as well proceed in the build-up to becoming Europe’s top club in 2018!

The opening is dedicated to the players, staff, us fans, and Sean.

Picture credits are given to those whom are due. Apparently Simon is bloody good at telling our story with his pictures. He deserves to be in Kiev!

Mods, feel free to change anything if need be. The message icon should be the UCL trophy by now!

We are 90 minutes away from glory. COYR!
      Allez! Allez! Allez!

Strongest available 11 to start. They truly deserve it. And by the way, Phil who has played some action in our run-up is eligible for a medal of whatever colour! Hmmm...

Anyone got any idea when the ‘draw’ (or whatever takes place) is made for the home dressing room ?

Any implications from being the "away" team being it's at a neutral site? Even for uniforms we'll still be able to wear red.

Suppose the team picks itself because of injuries but Lallana might be fit. Might make the bench or even be in contention. If he is fully fit Klopp may be tempted. Milner or Gini would lose out. Haven't seen much of Lallana in terms of playing alongside Mo.

Lallana playing off the right supporting Mo, tracking back to give cover to TAA. Milner on the left, with Hendo holding. Going to be who has the best attacking line up on the night. We are not sitting deep, nor are they.

We go for the jugular from the off. Playing a gagy cat & mouse game is not really our forte. Could be a fit Lallana will get the nod.

Milner nor Gini will be replaced by Lallana, he might see some action from the bench to relieve Jimmy at some point.

I can’t think of any, the only “downside” of being the away team is to use the away kit when the other team has a similar one, but won’t matter this time.

Reports saying Can could feature if the scan on Monday goes well, if the docs give him the all clear he can do full training again, massive boost if we can get him back playing, even if from the bench, Lallana already back training now so things are looking better injury wise.

Can I ask why Real Madrid's name is first on the title of this thread.

Surely it should (and will officially) be Liverpool v Real Madrid in alphabetical order.

      NB Ruth City.

      ........................ ........................ .....................

Anyhow ..... how's this lot to get started?

1981  Liverpool beat Real Madrid in the European Cup Final.

      1981 there was a Royal Wedding .  2018 ?

      18 is 81 backwards.

The Semi Finals in 1981 there was a team from Spain, from Germany, from Italy and from England.
      In 2018 ?
      It was the same.

There'll be more from people like me with nothing better to do.

       ;D

Because Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich, were given "Home" status in the Semi Final draw.
Won't make much difference now that Bayern and their red kits are gone.
Real Madrid in the home of white.
      Liverpool in red.

                       a dose of reality

we won the man city & Roma ties at anfield, we won't face real at anfield.
they have obviously been in the last 3 cl finals that's a lot of experience we won't have.
jurgens record in finals is shocking.
if he manages to pull a win out of the bag then he is a genius, but I fear a bit for us with that backline....

Agree it is a boost but likely what it means is that we will have an proper midfielder on the bench (probably two with Emre and Adam). Not unimportant, but not as big as if Emre or Ox was fit to start the game.

I fancy our chance with two weeks of rest and securing a CL break next Sunday. Right now this thin squad is in need of two things.

      1. Rest
      2. A pick me up win

We will get the latter next Sunday and than the two week break will be a sight for sore eyes. Our front 3 look ragged and need a rest. I look for Robbo and Trent to fill the gaps that we lack on the attack that Ox and Can provided. If Gini can give us a good game we will be down right tough to beat that night as well.

Real aren’t as good as the last few years and on our game we are as good as ANYONE. Also, Ronaldo picked up an ankle injury today so I could see him being fit to play but lack the preparation to keep up if he misses any time over the next 3 weeks
