Why do we have to wait until after the World Cup? Presumably everything remains the same with the player and he’s done his media stuff.
Surely if it’s just restructuring a deal with Lyon then that can be done whilst the World Cup is still going on?

I agree, if the player wants to come then we just need to deal with the club, I can't see it being a bother or distraction for the player and lets be honest if Fekir has not played much so far he's hardly going to get much more time on Sunday is he.

Talks aren't over by a long shot...they paused with the WC...they will pick up again after Sat.

This was never going to be a rush because the player himself wasn't going to be available for most of pre-season anyway so they've always had time.

Was just responding to the idea that the transfer not being done means we aren't interested. Aulas comment when the World Cup was done was that talks were done and he's staying - I know that doesn't make it so.

Would MUCH prefer Dybala but as that is unlikely to happen I don't mind taking a punt on Fekir.

Dybala is immense but fekir is a real player too and he suits our system far more and will gel with our players better in my opinion.

It's no punt. Fekir will be a great here ive got no doubt about that.

There's the concern over his knee of course but any big money signing is a gamble. We could sign messi for 300m and he could break his leg the next day in training.

The player has told his club of his "dream move to Anfield" and will restart move talks after the WC.

      On phone can't post link.

In most occasions I'd agree with that sentiment, but with Aulas being a renowned pr**k, and with it being a WC year, it's just not a normal transfer environment. Also the window is closing much earlier this year, so fortunately any deals will be wrapped up before the season kicks off. Unfortunately it may also mean we miss out entirely on key signings.

Likely. My hypothesis is as follows:

      1) left two years on his contact
      2) owner failed to get his contact extension
      3) owner will not want him to leave for free
      4) player told owner if any deal is to be done it has to be Liverpool.
      5) he is likely to run contract down and leave on a free if otherwise
      6) means Lyon has to sell and if not now when

Lyon has to sell now to Liverpool even at a slightly lower valuation to extract maximum value for him or risk losing him on a free. Reasons are as above. Fingers crossed.

Don’t think there needs to be any worry for them about losing him on a free yet, it’s not like us or any other club are going to hold off on signing him for 2 years just to get him on a free.

Maybe not worry, but rather getting maximum value for him. Next year he'll be left with one more year of contract. The value would decline drastically. For top dollar, it's best they sell now. Or hold off till the winter window. That's where I'm coming from. Max value.

I would think from our end, it just depends on whether what was found by the medical team has made Jürgen decide against this. Forgetting about the price tag, is he the player Jürgen believes will fill that role and make us a significantly better team. If he is, the money (barring something ridiculous) shouldn't matter to us.

      He will end up here.

Alaus as I said before is one of the toughest negotiators in world football.

Said as much before the whole saga started and was shut down like some simpleton.

Seems like in the pursuit of having this ‘tough negotiator’ persona, he makes life unnecessarily difficult for himself, his club, the player and all involved.

Aluas is old, staunch and, loves being known for being staunch.

He said Fekir won't go until after the world Cup and from the very start, as long as this is maintained, he feels he won't look like a plonker..

Works for talkaloadofbull.com, not worth paying attention to IMO.

Same reporter mentions us competing with Everton for Zaha.

I wouldn't mind Zaha as a depth option, but he probably wouldn't sign up for that.

Besides, when I see a transfer rumour that shows us competing with Everton for anyone, I figure it is invented.

Got to see him for a wee while in the WC final there.
      Looked a shade overweight ?
Not on long enough though to get much of an impression.
Wonder if this deal will be back on..

Hard to say, but presume if Jürgen was/is interested, must have something about him.
