From Everton to United to Liverpool? That would surely be unprecedented? Not to mention, why in the world would Klopp want an unsound technically buffoon whose only real "ability" is to injure people (either intentionally or clumsily)? I mean I can't stand that tit and if we were to sign him, I'd have a really hard time ever cheering for him. Such a no class turd licker.

There has been no transfer between us and the Scum ... either way ... since Phil Chisnall in 1964.

(Ferguson continued that impasse with Rafa over Gabriel Heinze.)

I'm sure J├╝rgen knows the history by now. If he doesn't then he should do.

J├╝rgen said Gerrard was free to leave for any manager's job except United or Everton.

      I think he gets it.

So our main questions remaining going into preseason:

      1. Will we sign an attacking midfield player in the wake of the Fekir signing falling through?

      2. Will sign one or more additional players for the forward three?

      3. Will younger or loan returnee players stake a claim for a role in either of the above two slots (Wilson, Origi, Brewster, Woodburn, Ojo, Kent).

      4. Will we try to sign a center back?

      5. Will we try to sign a goalkeeper?

      6. (Related to all of the above) Who will depart the club?

With Can and Flanagan already gone, possibles include Migs, Ward, Randall, Grujic (doubt it), Allan, Ings, Sturridge, Markovic. Grujic and the young players mentioned above are also loan candidates, but after our player shortage last spring, we might be inclined to keep an extra player or two around for cover.

      Thoughts at this stage?

Think a GK and a DM are the priority to challenge for the tital

                       New GK

                  Lovren    VVD
      TAA                             Robertson
                      New DM

                 Keita      Fabinho

           Salah                     Mane
                      Firminho

With about 80m still remaining from Couts sale + whatever we get from Can and other deals...spending 100m on a new GK, a DM and strengthening the bench isn't unrealistic. Worst comes to worse, push Keita back as DM, and stick Ox in there, still a top class first team.

If FSG really want titles and CL, that's the price tag.

And Ox is out for at least half a season with no guarantees as to quality after that. And we're  never spending 100 million on a goalkeeper. Other than that....

And basically, it's Fabinho and Keita in and Can departed. We're still as thin at forward as we were last season and the sense that we might be set at starting GK is now shattered after the CL final. Big summer.

Still shirt of at least one forward with Ox out of the attacking midfield berth as well . We are one injury away from being very weak again re champs league final got to get more depth or give Wilson some time to get some experience

Need a forward or two before another defender, I feel.

Can't play another 60 odd games with three quality players in three positions. Meanwhile in defence we have at least two players across each position.

Goalkeeper is a must. I really don't care who but Karius cannot be the answer.

I don't think many will argue about Karius being world Class but nobody can really point to a goalkeeper who has a good Premier league record or who could adapt to the league and who is available.
Still think we may have one or two opportunities at the World Cup.

Need a #10 and quality depth for the front 3. Once that is settled then we can see how much is left to spend on improving on the GK and Defense that had the best defensive record in the 2nd half of the league last season. Not much incremental improvement to be had there.

When I look at our squad (and the fact that we don't have an unlimited budget), I feel we are 2 starting players and 2-4 rotational players short for this transfer window. Personally, I'd be content with just the 2 new starting players signed and filling the rotational gaps with capable players already at the club, rather than chasing luxury targets at other positions and missing out on making our starting lineup better than just the inclusion of Fabinho and Keita.

      My personal approach to transfers:

      TRANSFERS IN (45-56 mil):
Starting GK: Pope (10-15 mil) (with the intention of wooing Courtois on a free next season when his contract expires and Chelsea miss out on CL qualification again, unless Chelsea are prepared to accept 50-60 mil this year)
Prospect GK: Lunin (3-4 mil) (if he hasn't in fact agreed terms with Inter - future prospect, to be loaned out)
Starting CB: Diop (22-25 mil) (apparently going to West Ham) / Ake (25-30 mil) (likely to stay at B'mouth) / De Ligt (35-50 mil) (Klopp unlikely to pay more than 30 mil for another defender)
Rotational W: Moses Simon (10-12 mil) (apparently been linked with club, but unlikely to hear more until recovers from injury in a few weeks)

      LUXURY TRANSFERS IN:

Rotational W: Gelson Martins (0) (we must not let a PL rival like an Arsenal be the one to take advantage of him terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon if that situation ends up standing, but would not pay full 30-40 mil likely fee otherwise)
Rotational M: William Carvalho (0) (same as above, except his full fee otherwise would be 20-30 mil, but if free would be a good fit to our urgent defending and counter attacking style, meaning we could move on from Wijnaldum this or next year, or Lallana next year if he struggles with fitness and form for another year)
Prospect Rotational CB: See above (would be good to get another young CB in with Klavan's contract expiring in 2019, and the chance that neither Gomez or Lovren excel enough to be frequent rotational starters)
Prospect Rotational #10 style M/W: No idea (ideally we'd nurture a true replacement of Coutinho for games where our system is not enough, but there isn't really a worthy alternative to Fekir that is worth the money being asked, so hopefully we have a great season and can attract an actual star the following year if a good value signing can't be found now)

      TRANSFERS OUT (52-96 mil):

      Mignolet (7-10 mil) (contract expires 2021, self-explanatory)
Bogdan (0-1 mil) (contract expires 2019, best to move him on even if for next to nothing)
Matip (12-20 mil) (contract expires 2020, not good enough for a PL challenging starter, best to move him on while still has some value)
Moreno (6-10 mil) (contract expires 2019, decent rotational player but would rather Milner take on that role and sell Moreno for a few mil rather than let him walk on a free, and find a more disciplined workhorse rotational player next season)
Sturridge (10-20 mil) (contract expires 2019, still a big fan and so would only let him go if he insisted on leaving for first team football and we received a reasonable fee, otherwise I'd keep him in for rotation this year)
Origi (12-25 mil) (contract expires 2019, if we cannot extend him to a contract that is of good value and using him as either a rotational starter or loaning him out for one more year, then we're wise to sell him for at least some value)
      Markovic (5-10 mil) (contract expires 2019, self-explanatory)

      LOANS OUT:

Ward (contract until 2021, worth giving him a year or two out on loan to a Championship club to either prove himself or increase transfer value)
Grujic (contract expires 2020, unlikely to be able to claim a rotational role this year with 2 new mid signings, but has potential, so should be loaned to Cardiff again or a Championship club to either prove himself or increase transfer value)
Woodburn (contract expires 2022, wouldn't be devastated if he was one of the young players kept as a fringe rotational player, but would rather see him loaned out to finally get some more consistent first team playing time at a Championship club)
Solanke (contract expires 2022, and also wouldn't be devo if he stayed with Ings as one of the rotational forwards, but perhaps could do with more playing time at, say, a Championship club to aid his development and confidence, and convince us he could be a good forward for a Klopp team challenging for titles)
Ojo (contract expires 2020, could do with another year on loan to Fulham or a Championship club before considering selling him next season)
Wilson (contract unsure most likely 2022, but would like to see him out on loan for another year if possible at a Championship club, or one of those just promoted to the PL)
Ejaria (contract unsure, already to be loaned out to Rangers)
Kent (contract unsure, probably should be loaned out to Championship club)

      4-3-3

      GK: Pope (/Courtois) / Karius
      RB: Alexander-Arnold / Clyne
CB: Diop / Gomez / Klavan
      CB: Van Dijk / Lovren
      LB: Robertson / Milner
      RM: Oxlade-Chamberlain / Lallana
      CM: Fabinho / Henderson
      LM: Keita / Wijnaldum
      RW: Salah / ?????
ST: Firmino / Ings / Brewster

Salah has probably had his best season for us so to rely or expect him to do the same this coming season is unrealistic. Our back up strikers are not good enough and buying more back up isn't the answer. Klopp should go and get a top line goalscorer, one who will be in the frame week in week out. To give us 4 top attackers, then a quality back up. Cutting corners bringing in a hopeful or a travelled striker will not enhance our chances.

Klopp has the money, he should spend a huge chunk on a top striker....absolute necessity. Top quality not run of the mill quantity as a makeshift backup.

James Pearce confirms today we are not in for a center back. Attacking midfield appears to be the place where the club are actively looking (and maybe another forward). Goalkeeper as well, but is that meant at first choice or backup?

So our lineup(s) on July 7 at Chester, preseason opener:

      1st Half
      GK: Karius
      D: Clyne, Virgil, Matip, Robertson
      M: Fabinho, Keita, Lallana
      F: Ings, Solanke, Wilson

      2nd Half:
      GK: Ward
      D: Randall, Gomez, Klavan, Moreno
      M: Gini, Milner, Jones
      F: Ojo, Origi, Woodburn

      And yes, I'm bored.

I see we being very highly touted by pundits and the bookies alike in terms of ur title chances for next season. I don't see it myself as yet, not until we see a few more talented players in the squad.

If Robertson gets injured long term we've got Bertie starting at left back
If Firmino gets injured long term we've got ings or Solanke starting up top
If Mane or Salah get injured we've got Woodburn or Wilson potentially coming in (or Lallana IF he can get himself fit)
If Karius gets injured we've got mignolet and they're as bad as each other

Still a lot of work to do in the transfer market for me. We're plus one at the moment with Keita and Fabinho in and Can out. Still another 3-4-5 players short by my reckoning.

So how would we fill if this was our starting XI on Aug. 12 vs. West Ham?

      NB: Team no longer available

I know there will need to be more than yesterday to show us Sturridge is reliable and that he should stay, but could you see this team as the starting point for one that wins the Premiership?

I guess that would make your second XI the following (With someone as the backup goalkeeper):

      NB: Team no longer available

With Klavan, Milner and Oxlaide-Chamberlain as the rest of the 25-man squad for registration. Of course Ox, when fit, likely plays ahead of Lallana at attacking mid or either Ojo or Wilson at forward.

Also, Ojo and Wilson I think qualify as 21 and under so wouldn't count against the 25-player limit

Any chance we are actually done buying, except for maybe a 2nd goalkeeper, and this is the group we take into the season? Any chance said group could win the title?

This starting 11 is very good. I always thought that Firmino should be the one replacing Coutinho in midfield. He is not as creative but he can be as impactful if not more and Sturridge is a much better goal scorer.

Firmino defends a lot, and it would allow Keita to get involved in attack too...

I think Klopp should definitely give it a go. Sturridge is a world class striker. He just scores...

Add the possibility of a fit for the season Sturridge. And the young lads Wilson Woodburn Brewster Solanke.

Surprised to see so many calm over dejan Lovren being our second choice centre half this season.

He's had a few good games recently for club and country but he's still a liability for me. He's one of those players who always has a mistake in him and he will cost us a game sooner or later.

I think it's essential we sign a new CB but as that's looking unlikely I'd rather we go with a partnership of Matip and Van Dijk.  I know matip had a pretty poor season in truth but he's still a better centre half than Lovren in my opinion.

      Nowhere near enough for me.

We're still short a GK, CB and at least two forwards.

Did you say the same after the game? Dejan was f**king superb for Croatia and hope he carries on playing the way he did against Kane and Alli for us next season.
