Wow! Really? My heart says hope your right but just think they're a bad side with a manager who is clueless.
England are always good value for a laugh at these tournaments if you don't support them. Looking at it as objectively as I can though I think Southgate talks a good game off the field and in the press but on it, it's safe to say that he's unconvincing. But at the very least there is a man there who, unlike Hodgson, doesn't think he's god's gift to football management so is willing to learn and try new things. I like the three at the back formation and it seemed to work from a defensive point of view and a strong defence is the least you'd expect from an England team at these types of tournaments. With an onus on defence they're not going to be pretty (then again, when were England pretty?) but if they make themselves hard to beat then that would be an improvement on recent tournaments. Quarter final would be good for England and despite the tendency in recent years to talk down England's chances in the press and within the FA (they love the 'inexperienced, youthful' excuse these days even if they've been using it for years now) that is the very least you'd expect of a nation of their standing.
I'd like to see Brazil win it although I think their standing as favourites might have taken a hit with the injury to Dani Alves. I don't know if Neymar will be fit either which is going to be a blow for them. They'll hopefully play the best football and truth be told, the World Cup desperately needs a team with flamboyance to win it and I'll back them above everyone else to unleash a bit of style. I also think the tournament badly needs a winner outside of Europe again.
