One of the few times the Honours system makes sense. Assuming this happens of course.

If the rumours are to be believed then
It took them F***ing long enough,
Yeah ok some might say 'better late then never' but for me king Kenny should have been honoured a long long time ago so for this to happen now loses some of its appeal for me & strikes me as a bit of after thought especially when I look at some of the wankers who have been knighted.

      Is right.

Literally couldn’t care less about the honours system but if it makes him happy then I’m in.

He’s the King for everything he’s done for Liverpool and vice versa.

Rest is just stuff and nonsense.

I don't agree with the honours system but having said that if anyone deserves to be knighted then it's certainly people like Sir Kenny Dalglish.

Well done to an actual LFC legend!  Always makes me smile when I remember his second period in charge and people calling him a yesterday man and a dinosaur but he put more trophies in the cabinet than Hodgson, Rodgers and Klopp have done in about 7 years combined!  (Maybe he should be in charge of our next final!) ;)

Always be King Kenny to me.

And me. I don't particularly agree with the honours system but it's more than justified and in true Kenny style he sees this as a recognition for all the people from his family to his supporters, fellow players and coaching staff. No man on this planet embodies this club greater than him but he does so with no sense of self importance or hint of thinking he's better than his fellow human beings. To the King!

      CONGRATULATIONS.

The really deserving recipient for all he has done for Liverpool Football Club and the relatives of the 96.

Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The 67-year-old, who won the European Cup three times while playing for the Reds and later managed the club, said he was "humbled but gratified".

He was also recognised for supporting Hillsborough victims and his charity work with the Marina Dalglish Appeal.

"I thought it was a tax bill," Dalglish told BBC Radio Merseyside. "For the family, it's a huge honour."

He said: "It won't make any difference to me, I'll just maybe need to change my passport!

"But just because we're a wee bit embarrassed about it doesn't underestimate how pleased and proud we are to have received it.

"I hope everyone who came into our lives enjoys it as well."

Dalglish is the only sporting figure knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Born in the east end of Glasgow and the son of an engineer, Dalglish made his Celtic debut in 1968. He won four Scottish league titles and four Scottish Cups before joining Liverpool in 1977.

In his first season at Anfield he scored the only goal in the 1978 European Cup final, and also lifted the trophy in 1981 and 1984.

Dalglish won six league titles as a Liverpool player, scoring 172 goals in 515 appearances.

He became player-manager in 1985, and was on the touchline for their ill-fated FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989.

Ninety-six Liverpool fans died as a result of a crush in the away end of the ground.

Dalglish helped support the bereaved families and made sure the club was represented at the funerals of all 96 victims, attending many himself.

Having won three titles as Liverpool manager, he left in 1991, leading Blackburn to the Premier League title four years later. He also managed Newcastle and Celtic, and had a second spell as Liverpool boss from 2011-2012.

After his wife Marina recovered from breast cancer, they set up the Marina Dalglish Appeal in 2005, and the charity has raised more than £10m.

Kenny was made an MBE in 1984, and Marina in 2009.

In 2011, relatives of the Hillsborough victims called for a man they call 'King Kenny' to be knighted.

      Their wish has been granted.

      THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^

My thoughts exactly, It is long overdue probably by a couple of decades +, Kenny has too much dignity to tell them to Ram it,
He'll still be King Kenny to us as always and I'm pretty certain he'd prefer to be called just  'Kenny'  without the Sir in front.

Congratulations all round , No one deserves it more !!

The guy is a gentlemen and will not 'give the finger' to the the establishment even if they think he deserves it. As a former player, Manager and now a Non Exec. Director I cannot think of a single living sportsman who deserves it more for their services to one club/team

Glad he mentioned his former managers and mentors Jock and Bob because they did deserve such an award for what they achieved.
Lady Marina Dalglish also has a nice ring to it and she herself has worked so hard for others she alone deserved recognition.

Read somewhere last night that he was only the 11th footballer or manager to be knighted.

Not sure how Trevor Brooking got one, doubtful services to commentary, but he was the last one.

Bobby Robson, Ferguson, Geoff Hurst, Bobby Charlton, Bert Millichip, Walter Winterbottom, Matt Busby, Alf Ramsey, Stanley Matthews, Stanley Rous and Charles Clegg (1927).

We should be really proud to have 2 of our ex footballers knighted.

Terrible, Thatcherite oversight in a horridly flawed system.

      The above about Bob.

      Agreed.

However Blair couldn't wait to get more votes by recommending one for Ferguson.  For what .... compared to Bob ?

Well deserved too. Was always surprised why Paisley never got one.

It's a bit worse than that. Ferguson actually got one because he donated hundreds of thousands to the Labour Party during their election campaign with a knighthood his reward by Blair and Campbell. It was never for 'achievements and services to football' or whatever official line was given at the time.

I know it's called the Queen's Birthday Honours but these ones are recommendations by the Prime Minister, yes?

I should of mentioned that both Kenny and Matt Busby are/were highly respected.

In 1998 Ferguson was named in a list of the biggest private financial donors to the Labour Party.[232] He is a self-described socialist.[233]

[234] In January 2011 Graham Stringer, a Labour MP in Manchester and Manchester United supporter, called for Ferguson to be made a life peer.[235] Stringer and fellow Manchester Labour MP Paul Goggins repeated this call after Ferguson announced his retirement in May 2013.[236]

About time this happened. The man has been a legend of the game, both in terms of talent and the way he conducts himself as an ambassador of the game for decades. Class.

      Congrats Sir Kenny.

Not sure I understand enough about this knighthood thing (especially for our king), but, congrats Sir Kenny :D
