They're one top attacker from being serious contenders.

Even without that they've still got a chance of going far. A midfield of Rakitic and Modric always gives you a chance.

Lovren seems to be getting better as this season has gone on and he made some quality blocks tonight.

      Quality mate.

I always look for Croatia in tournaments since back when Suker, Boban, Prosenecki, Bilic etc where in their team.

Always seem to produce good footballers.

It's ability. He is past peak and Ronaldo isn't. It doesn't show as much in La Liga against sides like Celta Vigo and Grenada... but Messi can't tussle at this level anymore.

Of course Messi can, you are only as good as the players around you, and Messi has sh*t around him for Argentina.

Another factor to consider, Ronaldo has become more of a striker and doesn't need to get involved with the build up play, where as Messi likes to operate deeper and needs the ball.

Hopefully Germany will be the next put out.
I'll be happy for England to be left with easier teams.

Argentina used about 4 million players in qualification and essentially turned up with possibly the most unbalanced squad in the tournament.  Against Croatia's midfield he uses a past it mash and a late call up in enzo perez. Excellent croatia team even though i would willingly punch manzdukic

Good sportsmanship from captain Messi there, straight down the tunnel and not even shaking hands. Argentina were humiliated, resorting to cheap fouls. Otamendi being the worst, kicks the ball at Rakitic’s head when he was taken out by Masch.

Modric is so good, class goal and destroyed Otamendi with the drop of the shoulder.

Great to see, hopefully Argentina go out after the next game.

Think the only mistake he made was letting Aguero goalside of him at one point, but other than that he was strong.

cant remember Messi being so out of sorts he did nothing tonight but Croatia looked very dangerous tonight even though Argentina made it easy for them at times.

its when he is drawn out wide he gets into trouble but he is so much better now than at the beginning of the season,

      Same with their "coach".
Aguero at least stuck around and didn't take off right away.

Otamendi trying to take Fellani's mantle of most punchable footballer on earth.

didn't they only win 1 in 8 without him. Such a shame we cant see him at his best winning games on his own

Meh, Messi hardly received the ball, that match was won in midfield. Sampaoli put all his cards on pressing and winning the ball high but it failed badly because Croatia were so good on the ball. Plus that starting XI is probably the worst I've ever seen of an Argentinian team in a World Cup.

It's an excuse. He didn't have the stamina to go get it. World class players can make something happen regardless.
Portugal are bang average and Ronaldo makes things happen. Swap Ronaldo for Messi and Argentina would not be on 1 point. Messi's penalties have been poor, his free kicks have been poor... his movement has been sub par regardless of other players.
