      City 2 - 1 Schalke
      Juventus 1 - 0 Atletico

I thought City were in danger of going out in this round when I saw they were trailing to Schalke. Didn't watch the game but then saw they managed to get 3(?) away goals. As much as I want City to lose, there is next to no chance of Schalke coming back from that.

If Juve goes out today (likely) and City get penalized for FFP violations (unlikely), wonder if Pep does go to Juve? faint rumors but doubt he'd stick around if City get punished.

The one thing you don't do vs City is play a high defensive line with big gaps between the defence and the midfield. So what do Schalke do? Play a high line with massive gaps and mountains of space for a rapid Sane and a rapid Sterling to get a ball to run onto. No wonder they are losing 5-0. You'd expect that because they are going gung-ho to get a couple goals but they've been miserable. Then when Sane has gotten the ball wide, nobody has thought to mark anybody in the box to stop them having loads of time to get a strike away.

Horrific defence, up there with the worst I have seen this season.

Shittest team in the whole competition this year I reckon! I can't remember seeing a team defend this badly this season. 7 times City have had the ball in the net and they haven't even played all that great! Schalke are just jogging around, making no effort to do anything at all. Embarrassment.

How the f**k was the keeper beaten like that?! A weak shot from the edge of the box has beaten the keeper by going underneath him at the near post...he was at the near post too! F**k me this is horrific. 7-0.

Yeah, I was thinking the same!! Was it in the box? Very shocked it wasn't given as a foul.

We all knew that Ronaldo and Messi are the two best players on the planet. However, I was skeptical about how much the presence of one player could mean to a team regardless of how good he is.

I always thought to myself that yeah Ronaldo and Messi are irreplaceable, but how much of a difference can they make if they are playing on a side who is simply not good enough to win a trophy or too good not to win one?

Well this year, I have to take a bow. It's not just the hattrick that, to an extent, single-handedly takes Juventus to the next phase, but also the situation at RM after he left. On one side you have the team he just won three consecutive CLs with being effectively out of contention in all of the competitions they took part in this year and on the other, he just scored the three necessary goals to take his team to the next phase.
