      UEFA Champions League 2018-19
      Jun 28, 2018 11:58:24 am
The competition is, sort of, under way!

Preliminary round kicked off two days ago with the champions of Andorra, San Marino, Gibraltar and Kosovo playing for one place in the first qualifying round.

Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar) and FC Drita (Kosovo) play their final tomorrow.

First qualifying round then starts 10th July

As it stands Liverpool would be in the third pot of seeds once again for the group stage UNLESS BOTH Benfica and FC Basel fail to win their 3rd qualifying round and then we would be seeded in the second group.

      Draw for the playoff made.

So if Benfica get past Fenerbahce they then have to get past PAOK or Spartak Moscow, second legs away in both cases.

Tough test for them now.  Gut feeling is we will be in pot 2 for the draw.  It doesn't make a huge difference really, and in any case if we qualify for the CL the following season we will be in pot 2 anyway by then (unless we win it of course!)

Benfica came away with a 1-0 home win over Fenerbahce so there is a shot at them crashing out thus getting us in the 2nd pot given the second leg will be played in Turkey.

The first legs will be played on 21 and 22 August, and the second legs will be played on 28 and 29 August 2018. The losers from both Champions Path and League Path enter the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League group stage.

Celtic are sh*te under Rodgers. Get rid! Celtic used to be a team who would probably get in top six in PL. Now they're a team that would be in a relegation battle.

Shut up you tart! Celtic haven't been a top 6 Premier League side for 15 years - stop rewriting history to suit a false narrative with a flimsy call for Rodgers sacking. You really don't help yourself sometime.

      2015-2016 6th went to Southampton.
      2012-2013 6th went to Everton.
I did not say top 4, I mean those teams not good enough to be in top four!
Rodgers European results have been dire, no getting around that.

Big blow for Celtic going out.  Don't they usually earn about £30M from the Champions League?

And I see Benfica go through so they will face PAOK in the playoff.  Probably fancy Benfica there so pot 3 it will probably be for the reds.

it might not matter much. Once removing English teams from pot 2, not as much difference between pot 2 or 3.

Benfica, Napoli, Roma, Donesk or Dortmund in 2.

Lyon, CSKA Moscow, PSV,  Shalke, Kiev or Salzburg in 3.

Even if we got in pot 2.. Lyon, CSKA or PSV is no better a draw than Roma or Donesk.

If any club spends even a pound on such nonsense then they don't deserve to be in the Champions League. Scottish football clubs have also had a tendency in recent years to blast music through the tannoy after the home team scores. Celtic have 'Just Can't Get Enough' by Depeche Mode whereas Rangers have 'One Step Beyond' by Madness. It makes for an embarrassing spectacle especially when you consider that Ibrox and Celtic Park are two of the most prestigious grounds in the whole of Europe.

For those guys who are big on getting into pot 2 we did get a favorable result as Benfica and PAOK drew 1-1 in Lisbon, second leg is next week in Greece . PSV beat BATE 3-2 in Belarus and RB Salzburg and Red Star Belgrade drew 0-0 in the other games.
