Milner was the last to touch the ball, but the pass to him from Pedro was poor which is what created the bad situation. The Tranmere guy was alone in the box with no one in sight.

They shared responsibility. Milner also had turned away from Pedro even though he was being closed down by the Tranmere player. It was a preseason kind of mistake and I guess that was part of Klopp's point, we're not going crazy over that, whereas with Karius' clanger it is really worrying. I'm glad he backs him, but it doesn't stop me from being concerned at this point.

There's just no way Karius can be first choice this season and I refuse to believe one of only two keepers can come in and make us better.

It's a shame about Karius because i do actually think he's a talented goalkeeper but he is just mentally weak.

In Kiev he wouldn't have made the second mistake if it wasn't for the first in my opinion.

And now in pre season he already looks a shambles because he knows all eyes are on him and he's under pressure.

He isn't strong enough to deal with it or overcome it.

Daniel's touch is just superb and his passing and vision brilliant but he isn't a natural creator and gets caught but who knows I would love to see him in a Red shirt playing well again

I don't know what the full comparison is like vs our rivals but it's great for us that we've got a core group of players who have not been involved at the World Cup and will see the benefit of a full pre-season ahead of the new season. Post WC always throws up a few surprise early season results due to the mixed levels of fitness for some of the star players. It's also a bonus for us that we do not have to worry about a qualifier for the Champs League for this season.

Fortunately we've got quite a few key players who have not been involved (particularly in midfield) where we have Keita, Fabinho, Milner, Gigi and Lallana all rested and fully available.

In defence we've got VVD, Matip, Gomez and Clyne

It's not so positive in attack but at least Salah and Mane both left the WC after the group stages and Firmino won't be too far behind after Brazil's QF exit.

Spurs and City in particular will have quite a few missing until late in the pre-season.

City - Walker, Stones, Kompany, De Bruyne, Sterling, Fernadinho, Jesus, Aguero all made the KO stages

Spurs - Kane, Alli, Trippier, Dier, Lloris, Alderweirald, Vertongen, Dembele, Rose

I notice Sturridge was not part of this session. Anyone know why? Klopp mentioned Gini didn't train today because of some health issue, but never mentioned Daniel.

We kick off at Bury in 45 minutes. Teams are out. No Ings, Wijnaldum or Danny Ward. Karius in goal and apparently the plan is for him to play 90 minutes with Grabara the backup. They probably reckon Ward gets more use out of training at Melwood, and then maybe he and Karius switch roles for Blackburn on Thursday. EDIT: see this confirmed on official site. Ward to play 90 vs. Blackburn.

Harry Wilson is also out, apprently about to seal a loan move.
