Happy birthday boss! I'm sure this year will be one of the best birthdays he'll ever have!

We've bemoaned FSG a lot during the last few years and they haven't got everything right. But you can't fault FSG for getting the most important call right - hiring this man. Everything good that happened after that day descends from that decision. It speaks of the power of Klopp that he has been able to stitch everything together at the club. The previously maligned transfer strategy, the development of potential of the playing staff and most importantly vanquishing the doubts, concerns and paranoia that had strangled supporters.

He has put together all the pieces - the board, the coaching staff, the players, the supporters, the entire city of Liverpool! Never in my lifetime has the club looked more like one entity alone than it does today. One club.

First post here, my nick is Dutch and I'm Dutch from The Hague, Liverpool fan and going to Anfield for about 27 years now. Anyway, I stumble on these Klopp quotes today, they are translated from the German broadcasting ZDF. Good to hear we have a bob or two if necessary.  :D

      Quote
“Back when I was in Germany, Bayern had a ‘bottomless pit of money’, like £100 million.

“In today’s market, that gets you one centre-back. So this bottomless pit of money is enough to buy one player in today’s world and that doesn’t even cover their wages!”

“The market has changed more than I expected, but I stand by what I said (in 2016).

“Maybe things were lost in translation but my point was: if we reach a point where football is solely about money and not football, then I’m leaving. And I still feel the same way about it.

“Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didn’t spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldn’t be able to compete. Everybody’s splashing the cash, so we have to do the same.”

Watching the post-match show tonight of the Copa America match between Uruguay and Chile (on Telemundo, an American Spanish-language network that uses commentators mostly from Central and South America). Now, I've noticed the intensity and the tempo of these games has been more enjoyable than in past versions of the event (and I say that as someone who likes football from South America). Now, my Spanish is far from perfect, but there was a bit on just  now where they were showing a lot of highlights from the 18 group stage matches played through tonight and they were pointing out how many of the teams were employing some form or another of a press. The lead commentator, if he said it once he said it 10 times, would break in as the clips were being played with "Liverpool y Klopp"

I know Jürgen didn't invent the idea of a press, but I think he has developed it and applied with such effect he qualifies as a tactical visionary who is proving to be remarkably influential in the world game (my country's national team - USA - is trying to do it as well, but has a long way to go). It's great to see him get his due for this from that part of the world. He's more than just a motivator.
