He's 32 years old, these things happen. This was his third hamstring injury in the last 10 months. They happen more often at his age, and take longer to recover from than other players.

Why in the name of sanity he was risked with it in Milan, only Arne can answer. What's it going to do, miraculously heal itself during the game? 🤔 Hamstrings are a minimum 2 week absence if you're lucky, or 2 months in his case last season if you're not.

Now there's already a mad panic to patch him up and get him ready for the game at the weekend, instead of doing the easy thing and waiting for him to get 100% match fit. We have alternatives just as capable of doing the job he does, seriously it's not a problem.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has spoken to media before their match against Wolves and said on Alisson's injury: "We think he is [ready to return].

"He trained yesterday part of our session, we expect him to do the whole session today.

"Weā€™re really happy, but I want to emphasise did really well with the two games with [Kelleher]. Another example of where we have two or three good options in some positions."

Doesnā€™t look like his body can handle regular football?

      Absolutely bizarre.

Only just realised watching MOTD he injured it on the kick beforeā€¦. Then was hobbling back to goal as they attacked and thatā€™s why he kicked it out in such a weird way from that Trent  pass back. Think thatā€™s 3 times now heā€™s damaged a muscle when kicking the ball?
Kelleher sounds like heā€™s desperate to leave. Obviously Mamardashvili is coming in, but Alisson has made it clear he doesnā€™t want to leaveā€¦ makes me wonder if we genuinely might look to rotate keepers in future? Maybe Iā€™m overthinking it, but it feels like he misses chunks every seasonā€¦.

Not sure he was happy with Trent for the backpass but he didn't help himself by hobbling back instead of going down and stopping play

Seeing how often we love to gift teams goal scoring opportunities canā€™t be easy for him, reckon heā€™s finally had enough.  :lmao:

Bit surprising he came back so soon after the last one tbh. Hindsight n all that, but looks like we should have given him longer to recover. There was no real need to rush him back.

Possibly kelleher being ill forced our hand a little. If he had been available maybe it would have been a different scenario.

I have not seen much of Jaros i have to say. All in all, this crappy international football sham has come at a good time. But only if we dont pick up even more injuries during it.

If any doubt over Mac he should be staying here for treatment.

No worries mate. It was a hammy he was out with before I think, so it was quite surprising he came back so quickly, usually keeps you out a bit longer. With Kelleher standing in very well, as usual, did think at the time it was strange he was back so soon.

Does make you wonder about our medical team somewhat. We know Ali has a history of these issues, you'd think they'd err on the side of caution before ok-ing him.

It was not surprising.  If he can stand upright, he plays, regardless whether he's actually fit or not. He went to Milan with a hamstring injury, while crying about the demands of the schedule. Unsurprisingly, the injury got worse, and he had to be left out.

4 hamstring injuries in less than a year. If this was Thiago or Fabinho, there would be demands that they be sold. Instead, there are calls to rush him back and go straight in for the next game, as if nothing has happened. You would think we were short of goalkeepers or something...

Who called for him to be ā€œrushed backā€ and straight in for the next game ?

Course it's not surprising. We know how valuable the best keeper in the world is to this team? If it were Kelleher between the sticks at Wolves and Palace we may've only walked away with 2 points instead of 6.

There were never any demands for Fab to be sold because of his injury issues (and you could apply the same to Matip, Trent, Ibou and Jota), there were demands for Fab to be sold because he turned to sh*t. Thiago was available for about 50% of the games, Alisson to date has been available for 88%. He's had 2 injuries which have kept him out for a sustained period, one was last season and the other you have to go back to the covid season. Quite a difference I'd say.

Most of us were surprised to see him back so quickly. The club and he played with fire and got burnt, simple as that.

Alisson faced Palace last year at home. Sadly we didn't even manage to get a point then, let alone 3.

This is his 4th hamstring injury since the end of last November. You have to respect hamstring injuries, and give players adequate time to recover and get fit. He hasn't been. As soon as he could stand up, he's been thrown back into the team, each time before. He shouldn't have played in Milan, or Wolves or the weekend, as he was injured. Doing so has only made it worse, so he's now out again. 4 hamstring strains in a year is not a coincidence.

I've seen the last match thread, posts hoping he'll be back for the next league game, or failing that, the one after that. This is madness, let him recover properly, or else he'll break down again in no time. In the meantime, we're not short of quality goalkeepers to save a few shots at them every 20 minutes or so. Jaros had one shot to save at the weekend in 20 minutes, and sure enough he saved it. This development is not a blow, this is a seamless transition from one keeper to another.
