Curtis Jones Player Thread (M)

Don't have a problem with him volunteering. Just wish Slot would have changed the order around. Immense amount of pressure for Curtis especially after Darwin's miss.

Tbh subbing two of your main pen takers was always going to have an effect

Curtis Jones has got a 99% pass completion rate cos he only ever passes the ball 2 yards. Takes no responsibility for making things happen.
What is he good at someone please tell me.
Everybody in our pub was horrified when Jones came up for the penalty. We all knew he was going to miss and so did all Liverpool fans if they’re honest.
He thinks he’s Maradonna but he wouldnt get in our ale house team.
They will still be saying he’s got potential when he’s 40. 🤦‍♂️

Bit harsh on him imo. He can be our useful squad player.

I didn't say I knew he was going to miss a penalty but a second seeing he do that funny ill duck steps before kick the ball I honestly believe it's over

As far as first posts go...

Jones is a decent squad player, actually possesses more skill than he's given credit for but he can't seem to mash it all together and often falls back into the same old bad habits he's had since he burst onto the scene.

Curtis is just not good enough.....consistently. The ratio being something like one decent game in about five/six. He's one of those players that just wallows around, a pass here and there, but seldom affecting the game. He lacks identity on the pitch...a personality...he's sort of nothing.

One of the problems is that he seems to think a lot of himself without justification. When he trots out the "best player on the pitch" line it's cringeworthy.

He's a good player, improved a lot in the last 2 years. Not as good as Mac or Grav, but good enough that he can fill in for either without a big drop off. Arne obviously sees him as a very capable squad player, which he is, so he won't be going anywhere this summer.

He's very good and he's very bad....and that's the problem.

I think Curtis is alright as a squad player he still has time to improve can see him get better.  Needs to not dwell on the ball in traffic, move out quick all the time.   

We need him in our squad at this moment of time for our homegrown/academy trained numbers also.

I don't agree with the ongoing criticism of Curtis. When he was young, especially when he scored that goal against Everton, he had massive potential. Maybe he's not developed into the world class player we hoped we had found. But he's a very good squad player sho can be relied on to give us good performances; he's had a few periods when he's had a run of games with very good performances.

Also, as others have said, the homegrown factor is important.

Like most players, he's at his best when fully fit and has had a run of games.

True, for the most part they come on a subs. Most clubs will have a few bang average players knocking around the squad...we're no different.

Said it 2 years ago with jones if he wasnt local he would be nowhere near the club. 2 years on its the same, and still no real consistency. Just an average squad player who every now and again may produce something. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's plenty at Chelsea and Utd today, a few at City and Arsenal and even we've had our fair share in the last 25 years too.

Maybe you have that binary attitude that someone is “top class” or not good enough
