      Camino de Santiago
      Aug 08, 2017 12:32:19 pm
A pal of mine is planning on doing this next year, and has asked me if I want to go along.

About 1,000km if we do the route he wants to which will go partly through France rather than the "traditional" Camino.
I'm not doing it for religious reasons, but as a project if you like.

About 2 months to complete, maybe a bit less, it could be perfect for avoiding silly season.

Now I just have to persuade the mrs

Anyone here with any experience of this?

Looks like a great time, but I'm a bit worried about the new hip, and also keeping up with an ex Marine.

Hip replacement fu**ed my golf swing, and I haven't got used to it yet (feels strange when I jog/run).

The other issue I'm having is sharing dorms with strangers, but I expect I'll get used to that quick enough.

I was talking to him about it on Tuesday when we met up for the match, so assuming the Mrs is OK with it, I'm going to do it next spring.

      Camino training this week.

      Did 137k, averaging 30k a day.

The guy that I'm doing it with, is an ex-marine, and he wants 3mph

We're carrying packs of about 30kg which doesn't include water.

He said I need my ankles and feet to toughen up.
      I agree.

He wants to do Pen Y Fan next.
      I agree.

It isn't me feet or ankles that are giving me gyp, it's my shins.
      Something to work on.

He's right, if I want to do the Camino, I have to be ready for it.

So, we did Pen Y Fan, more than once, and he took me off the path (tourist path).

Broken ground, big pack (30 pounds without water), and he still wants 3 mph.

We've also done more of the Pennine Trail, and more in the Peaks and Lakes.

It's hard F***ing work, and my shins are giving me gyp.
      Really sore.

My feet are OK though, which is the main thing.

Camino next year, and my own fault for getting into it with a bloody Marine.   :lmao:
      He's a c**t  :lmao:

No  but I lived near St Pied de Port in SW France where all the old traditional routes down through Europe converged before the start of the Camino.

You need to watch " The Way"  with Martin Sheen and James Nesbit.

Would loved to have done it .

Did a bit of the Camino de Santiago, then switched to the Camino Primitivo.

Fewer people, no 4am stampede, lovely Albergue's and a more challenging route.

Thoroughly knackered feet, ankles and shins, but worth every minute.
We did about 2,000 km in total.
