CB could quote easily be our downfall this season. Worries me.

      Yep, worries me as well.

Should have kept him to at least January at least.

He’s so injury prone now, always seems something wrong with him. Can’t rely on players like that so may as well cash in when we can. Gives Phillips more of an opportunity, which I’m confident will only benefit us more.

I think its the injuries which is the reason, plus we have Nat Philips to take his place now.

We already have enough cover for defence with Gomez, Matip and Phillips.

Not the greatest cover since Gomez and Matip are terribly injury prone. I have no doubt that Phillips will get some solid game time as a result.

Poor decision to let him go now considering our injury concerns at the back..

Should of held out till Jan..

Wish him all the best though...kept his head down & got on with the job..

I think it's an indication that Phillips will get some games this season.
Probably League Cup. Klopp seemed to give him a vote of confidence preseaon
and he's shown form now in giving young players significant game time
when he has confidence in them.

Not surprised but like a few of you I also wish we were keeping him until January. When both have been fit I actually think Klavan has performed as well as Matip. Young Phillips looks like he has some nice qualities but I wouldn't feel too comfortable if he was starting in a PL game, based on pre-season he hasn't looked the part the way TAA did from the get go. It looks like Gomez is now likely to be our 3rd choice CB (behind VVD & Lovren) but again, i'm still not fully convinced by him. He looks easy on the eye in terms of composure on the ball and he has some pace BUT he doesn't really attack the ball the way a CB should (on the deck and in the air). But good luck to Klavan because he was a solid performer when called upon and like all of our CBs he would have looked a lot better playing alongside VVD.

Best wishes to Ragnar, who did what he was asked.

Frees up a non home grown player slot for registration in January if we intend to bring someone else in. Don't underestimate the importance of that.
